Amazon DeepFleet is a set of AI models designed to help coordinate mobile robots inside Amazon fulfillment and sortation facilities. It is intended to predict how robot traffic will develop, assign tasks and route robots around congestion. Amazon says the system improved robot travel time by 10%, but that is a company-reported result—not an independently validated benchmark, and it should not be assumed to apply to other warehouses.
What Amazon DeepFleet does
DeepFleet is an operational coordination system for Amazon’s warehouse robot network, not a consumer robot or a public AI service. Amazon announced it on June 30, 2025, describing it as a generative AI foundation model for coordinating robot movement across its fulfillment network. Amazon Science’s later technical explanation describes a role that includes predicting robot traffic, assigning tasks and routing robots around potential congestion.
The wider network includes different kinds of machines. Amazon’s robotics overview describes mobile drive units that move inventory pods, robots that handle packages, and autonomous systems such as Proteus that move carts through open areas. DeepFleet is presented as a coordinating layer integrated with this operational robotics network, rather than as a replacement for the robots themselves.
Why use a model to predict robot locations?
A warehouse planner needs to anticipate where robots will be and whether their routes will conflict. In a busy facility, the movement of one robot can affect the routes and timing of others. A planner that can predict likely traffic can make task and routing decisions with congestion in mind.

Amazon Science explains that accurately simulating interactions among thousands of robots faster than real time can be prohibitively resource intensive for Amazon’s existing planning workload. Joey Durham, a senior manager of applied science at Amazon Robotics, said: “In contrast, a learned model can quickly infer how traffic will likely play out.” The point is to use learned predictions to inform planning, rather than to simulate every possible interaction at the same level of detail.
What does Amazon’s 10% result mean?
Amazon’s June 30, 2025 announcement says DeepFleet improves robot travel time by 10%. An Amazon Science explainer published August 11, 2025 describes the outcome instead as a 10% increase in deployment efficiency. Those are Amazon’s descriptions of the result; the wording is not identical, so “10% faster robots” is not a precise substitute.

The public sources cited here do not provide an independent validation or enough evaluation methodology to determine how the result was measured, what conditions it covers, or whether it generalizes to other warehouses. The figure should therefore be read as Amazon’s reported outcome for its own operations, not as a guaranteed improvement for a different facility or fleet.
What the technical report evaluates
The Amazon Robotics report DeepFleet: Multi-Agent Foundation Models for Mobile Robots describes four model architectures. It says the training data includes robot positions, goals and interactions from hundreds of thousands of Amazon warehouse robots. The report evaluates prediction tasks; its architecture results do not establish that every model described is deployed in Amazon facilities.

These are research comparisons across different representations and prediction metrics, not a ranking of retail products. The best-performing architecture depends on which prediction target matters: the robot-centric model led on congestion delay and position/state distance, while robot-floor led on timing-estimation distance. The graph-floor result is notable for retaining strong results with a substantially smaller parameter count than the two larger architectures, but the report summary does not establish that it is the operational model Amazon uses.
The report is an unpublished Amazon Robotics technical report hosted on arXiv, version 3 revised April 13, 2026. It is useful technical documentation, but it is not evidence of independent peer review.

What Amazon’s deployment figures show—and do not show
In its June 30, 2025 announcement, Amazon said it had deployed its one-millionth robot to a fulfillment center in Japan and that its global network covered more than 300 facilities. These are company figures tied to that announcement date, not a current facility or robot count.
Amazon UK also publishes a figure saying 75% of global customer orders are assisted by robots. That is a broad statistic about Amazon’s robotics fleet, not a DeepFleet-specific result, and the page does not give a clear publication date in the reviewed version. It should not be presented as a current measurement of DeepFleet’s impact.

Is DeepFleet available to buy or use?
The sources describe DeepFleet as Amazon’s internal system, built using internal inventory-movement data and AWS tools including SageMaker. They do not establish a public purchase path, a general-purpose API, or access to DeepFleet for SageMaker customers. Amazon’s use of SageMaker as part of its development does not mean DeepFleet itself is included with that service.
For warehouse operators outside Amazon, the report may be informative about model architectures and prediction tasks, but it is not a deployable product offer. The cited material also does not support a recommendation of a consumer robot, kit or other purchasable product as a way to use DeepFleet.
