What’s actually slowing this PC down?

To identify your iPhone, open Settings > General > About, tap the value beside Model Number to reveal the A-number, then match that number with Apple’s model list. If you can’t open Settings, the number may be printed on the device; where to look depends on the iPhone’s design.
Find your iPhone model in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap General, then About.
- Find Model Number. The value shown there at first is the part number.
- Tap the part number. It changes to the model number, an A-number.
- Look up that A-number on Apple’s Identify your iPhone model page and match the full entry, including any regional variant.
Apple’s instruction is: “To find the model number, tap the part number.” The About screen also shows the model name, iOS version, serial number, capacity, and other device information. Apple’s About settings guide explains the information shown there.
Understand the two numbers in About
The distinction is easy to miss: the first value beside Model Number is the part number, not the A-number used in Apple’s model reference. Tap it to switch to the model number. Use that revealed A-number for the lookup.
Identify an iPhone when Settings is unavailable
Apple’s physical lookup options depend on the generation and whether the device has a SIM tray:

#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- iPhone 7 or earlier: Check the back of the iPhone for the model number.
- iPhone 8 or later with a SIM tray: Remove the tray and inspect the opening. Apple recommends bright overhead light; the number is on the side of the opening nearest the display.
- iPhone without a SIM tray: Look inside the USB-C or Lightning connector opening. The number is on the upper side nearest the display.
Do not assume every iPhone has a SIM tray or that the number is in the same place on every model. A SIM ejector tool is only relevant for removing a tray on a phone that has one; it is not needed to identify a phone through Settings.
Confirm the model against Apple’s reference
Apple’s model list connects A-numbers to named iPhone models and includes identifying details such as introduction year, capacity, colour, display size, camera arrangement, buttons, connector, and SIM-tray configuration. Some model names have different A-numbers for different countries or regions, so match the exact number and the applicable regional entry rather than relying on the name alone.

Use exterior details as a cross-check after matching the A-number. Design clues can help distinguish entries, but they do not replace the number lookup. Apple updates its reference as models are added, so consult the current model list instead of relying on an old screenshot or an unsourced list.
