What happens to event Pokémon after a Pokémon GO event ends? If you already caught one, it remains listed in your Pokémon inventory; the official guidance identifies costume Pokémon as Special Event Pokémon in the inventory. What may end is your chance to encounter that Pokémon, finish its Collection Challenge, obtain an event-exclusive move, or use a temporary pass or item. The exact rules depend on the event.
Do event Pokémon disappear when the event ends?
The official inventory help describes costume-wearing Pokémon as Special Event Pokémon and explains how to find them in your inventory. It does not say that a Pokémon already caught disappears when its event ends. That is different from the event’s temporary features, which can have closing times.

For costume Pokémon, the help page’s inventory search term is costume. See Pokémon GO’s inventory search guidance. This supports treating a caught costumed Pokémon as an inventory entry, but it is not a universal statement covering every event-associated Pokémon or form.

Can you still catch an event Pokémon afterward?
Possibly, but do not assume the event encounter remains available. When an event ends, its particular spawn, research, raid, or other encounter opportunities may end too. Pokémon GO’s Collection Challenge guidance notes that some featured Pokémon are obtainable only as research rewards or in Raid Battles. Check the event announcement for the Pokémon’s encounter method and timing: What Are Collection Challenges?

Shiny availability can also be event-specific. The Help Center says some Pokémon, including Smeargle, Unown, and Meltan, cannot be encountered as shiny outside specific events, and directs players to event updates for availability. That does not establish a return date or mean every event Pokémon has the same shiny rules. Check the official shiny Pokémon guidance and the current event details.
What happens to the Collection Challenge?
A Collection Challenge usually disappears when its corresponding event ends, so complete it before the deadline. The Pokémon GO Help Center says the challenge instructions specify whether each Pokémon must be caught, hatched, evolved, or traded. Some challenge Pokémon may come only from research rewards or raids, so having the species in your collection may not satisfy the listed requirement.

Can you get an event-exclusive move after the event?
For Community Day, the featured Pokémon can learn its exclusive attack by evolving during the event or up to five hours after it ends. The Help Center says the attack is added to the Elite TM afterward. This is the stated Community Day rule, not a guaranteed deadline for every event move; check the specific event announcement before waiting to evolve. Details: What are Community Days?

What happens to passes, rewards, and event items?
Temporary event resources are separate from Pokémon in your inventory and can expire. The rules vary by pass or item, so check its own event details rather than assuming it will remain usable after the event.

- GO Pass or Adventure Pass: The Help Center says a pass is available for a set duration; when it ends, the pass is no longer available and unclaimed rewards expire. A grace period may apply, and its duration can vary. See What is the Adventure Pass?
- Event-specific items: In the GO Wild Area: Global example, GO Safari Balls are usable only during event hours and are no longer accessible from inventory after the event concludes. That rule is specific to this event, not a universal rule for every event item. See GO Wild Area.
What to check before an event ends
- Whether you have caught the Pokémon or still need to complete an encounter.
- The Collection Challenge deadline and the required method for each Pokémon.
- Whether an exclusive move has an evolution deadline after the event.
- When a pass, unclaimed reward, or event item stops being available.
- The event’s local timing, region, encounter methods, and any special availability rules in the official announcement and in-game event details.
