Changing your Apple Account country or region does not come with a published guarantee that your Apple Music subscription will transfer unchanged—or that every plan is automatically canceled. Apple says subscriptions that block a country or region change must be canceled and allowed to run through the end of their term. Your music access then depends on whether the subscription remains active and whether the destination storefront offers the content.
Will changing countries cancel Apple Music?
Apple’s country-change instructions do not say that every Apple Music plan is automatically canceled. They also do not promise that a plan transfers unchanged. Check your subscription in your account before changing regions. If Apple identifies it as a subscription blocking the change, cancel it and wait for its current term to end, as Apple instructs in its country or region change guidance.

While the subscription is active
Apple warns that some content may not be available in a new country or region. That is a general availability warning, not a statement that every song disappears when the account region changes. A track available in your current storefront may not be offered by the destination storefront.

If the subscription expires
Apple says that when Apple Music expires, catalog tracks can no longer be played, catalog-based playlists become unavailable, and Sync Library turns off. Music and playlists that were on your device before you subscribed remain available. Downloading subscription catalog tracks before a move does not guarantee access to them after the subscription ends. See Apple’s Apple Music cancellation guidance.
Prepare before changing your Apple Account region
- Check your Apple Music subscription. Review its status, renewal date, and billing source in your Apple Account subscription settings. If another provider bills you, you may need to manage cancellation with that provider; the cited Apple guidance does not establish the process for every billing arrangement.
- Resolve blockers Apple lists. Apple’s checklist says to spend any remaining Apple Account balance and resolve pending memberships, pre-orders, rentals, Season Passes, and credit refunds. Cancel subscriptions that block the change, then wait for their periods to end.
- Check Family Sharing. Apple says being in a Family Sharing group might prevent a country or region change. Check whether leaving the group is necessary before proceeding.
- Check destination requirements. Apple may require a valid payment method and billing address for the new region. Confirm that Apple Music is available there and review the current local subscription terms.
- Save content you may need offline. Apple recommends redownloading music and other content to devices you may use later because some items might not be available in the destination storefront. This does not preserve access to subscription catalog tracks after the subscription expires.
- Change the account region. On iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro, Apple’s route begins at Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases > Country/Region. Apple also documents account-setting routes for Mac, Windows, and the web in its country or region instructions.
Changing your region is different from traveling
These steps concern changing the country or region set on your Apple Account. Simply traveling abroad is not the same action: Apple’s cited country-change guidance does not say that travel alone changes your storefront or automatically ends your subscription.
