Spark merged its cloud and IT businesses Revera and CCL under the CCL brand in February 2019. The combined organisation was announced as having about 700 employees across 11 offices, with CCL chief executive Andrew Allan leading it. Spark’s goal was to bring Revera’s infrastructure strengths together with CCL’s professional services to offer customers a more joined-up route to IT management and cloud services.

What happened to Revera and CCL?

Revera and CCL were both part of Spark’s technology-services portfolio. In February 2019, Spark consolidated them into one business operating under the CCL name. Revera’s capabilities were absorbed into the combined company rather than retained as a separate customer-facing brand. Spark’s FY19 annual report described the change as consolidating Revera and CCL under CCL. Spark 2019 annual report

The consolidation followed Spark’s earlier acquisitions: it acquired infrastructure and data-centre provider Revera in 2013, then announced its acquisition of CCL in December 2015 for approximately NZ$50 million. Spark said CCL, Revera and Appserv would strengthen its platform IT and cloud capabilities. Spark’s 2015 announcement

Why did Spark combine the businesses?

The strategic rationale was to combine complementary capabilities and simplify how Spark took IT and cloud services to market. Revera brought deep platform and infrastructure experience; CCL contributed bespoke professional services. Andrew Allan, who led the combined business, said the combination would support clients through management and modernisation of their business technology. CIO’s 22 February 2019 report

Spark’s FY19 results described the merger as creating New Zealand’s largest IT-services business and noted the launch of Leaven, a consultancy focused on helping customers adopt cloud and digital services. Spark’s annual report said it aligned wider group capabilities behind a single go-to-market strategy and that Leaven would work across the three leading public-cloud vendors. Spark FY19 results

How large was the combined CCL?

The February 2019 announcement described the merged organisation as having about 700 employees across 11 offices. Andrew Allan became its leader. Robin Cockayne supported the integration before moving to another role within Spark. CIO’s 22 February 2019 report

In a December 2019 market release, Spark said CCL retained more than 700 employees after the operating model was simplified. The release did not give a revised office count. Spark’s 5 December 2019 market release

How did CCL’s focus change after the merger?

In December 2019, Spark said CCL had divested operational network-service assets that overlapped with capabilities elsewhere in Spark. CCL retained its broader cloud and ICT services and focused on multi-cloud growth. This was a refinement of the operating model, not a reversal of the merger. Spark’s 5 December 2019 market release

What cloud services and platforms does CCL support?

Later announcements document CCL’s work across Microsoft Azure, VMware by Broadcom and AWS. The announcements establish partner relationships and capabilities, but do not by themselves specify the scope, terms or suitability of a particular customer engagement.

Microsoft Azure CCL and Microsoft announced a three-year strategic partnership in March 2020 to support business and public-sector cloud migration. Does the Revera brand still exist?

For the merger described here, CCL became the customer-facing brand and Revera’s capabilities were incorporated into the combined business. Spark’s December 2019 release explicitly dated the Revera brand merger to February 2019. The available announcements establish that brand transition; they do not establish whether the Revera name is used in any other context today.

What is not established about the merged business?

Spark’s and CCL’s announcements document the merger, stated scale, strategic rationale and partner ecosystem, but do not provide a standalone post-merger CCL revenue or profit figure. Partner status alone also does not establish the price, delivery terms or best-fit platform for a specific project; those depend on the customer’s requirements and a current proposal.
