DivX marked 25 years in October 2025, counting from its 2000 founding. It began with digital video compression and grew into computer playback software, certified consumer-device technology, streaming products and licensing. DivX still describes active software and licensing businesses; its support history lists DivX Software 11.15 for Windows and Mac as released June 25, 2026.
What was DivX used for?
DivX technology made digital video easier to compress, store and share while preserving playback on compatible software and devices. The company’s work eventually covered both sides of that experience: consumer tools for playing and converting video, and technology licensed to manufacturers for playback in consumer electronics.
DivX video technology is distinct from DIVX, the name of a separate DVD format. The milestones here concern the DivX video company and do not describe the history of that disc system.

Yes. DivX continues to offer consumer software and licensing services, and its support history lists DivX Software 11.15 for Windows and Mac as released June 25, 2026. That version listing establishes the release entry, not whether it is the newest build at a later date.
