DRAM and NAND prices rise or fall with supply and demand, but the market is not one-size-fits-all: supplier capacity choices, product mix, customer inventories, and contract terms make prices diverge across server, PC, mobile, and consumer products. TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 forecast projects 4Q26 contract-price increases of 10–15% for conventional DRAM and 15–20% for NAND Flash. Those are forecasts for specified contract categories—not guaranteed changes in retail prices. For memory makers, higher selling prices can lift revenue and gross margin, but shipments, costs, product mix, and execution also determine the result.

What makes DRAM and NAND prices move?

Memory prices respond to the balance between the supply buyers can obtain and the amount they want to purchase. When demand rises faster than available supply, suppliers generally gain negotiating leverage. When buyers have adequate inventories, delay purchases, or cannot absorb higher costs, that leverage can weaken.

That basic balance is filtered through the kinds of memory being made and sold. DRAM and NAND serve different purposes, and even products within each category compete for capacity, customers, and investment. There is no single price trend that applies equally to server memory, PC and mobile memory, client SSDs, and enterprise SSDs.

Demand differs by product and customer

AI and data-center investment has supported demand for server DRAM and enterprise SSDs. Consumer-facing demand is more sensitive to device sales and affordability. TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 outlook describes ongoing support from cloud-provider demand for enterprise SSDs, while buyer inventories and limited purchasing needs constrain increases in several consumer-facing NAND categories.

Capacity allocation changes what is available

Manufacturers decide how to allocate constrained production capacity among products. TrendForce says suppliers continue prioritizing advanced-process DRAM capacity for high-performance server products in 4Q26. Shifting resources toward server DRAM, high-bandwidth memory, or enterprise SSDs can leave less supply for PC, mobile, graphics, or consumer products. This is one reason two memory categories can experience different price movements at the same time.

Inventory, timing, and contracts affect bargaining power

Customers with inventory on hand may postpone orders; customers worried about supply may buy earlier or negotiate longer-term agreements. Such agreements can help secure supply, but their prices and timing need not track spot transactions or open-market quotes. A contract-price forecast therefore cannot be read as a forecast for every retail memory module or SSD.

Why the forecast depends on the period and category

TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 outlook projects the following quarter-on-quarter changes for 4Q26 contract pricing:

Product category TrendForce 4Q26 forecast What the figure describes
Conventional DRAM Up 10–15% QoQ Contract prices; forecast published 30 September 2026
NAND Flash Up 15–20% QoQ Contract prices; forecast published 30 September 2026

These percentages are forecasts, not realized results, and they do not represent a uniform increase across all memory products or retail prices. Within NAND, TrendForce says enterprise SSD price growth is accelerating, supported by cloud-provider demand, while inventory and limited buying constrain increases in some consumer-facing categories.

The pace also depends on the comparison period. On 31 March 2026, TrendForce forecast 2Q26 contract-price increases of 58–63% for conventional DRAM and 70–75% for NAND Flash. That earlier forecast illustrates how sharply expectations had accelerated; it is not a substitute for the later 4Q26 outlook, nor evidence that those forecast changes were realized.

By its 3 July 2026 outlook, TrendForce described memory-price gains moderating as consumer demand weakened and high base effects took hold. Its later outlook points to continued increases in 4Q26, but highlights consumer affordability and inventory as constraints. Price forecasts must therefore be read with their publication date, forecast quarter, and product category attached.

How memory prices affect chipmakers

A higher selling price can increase a supplier’s revenue and gross margin when shipment volumes and costs do not move adversely enough to offset it. But price is only one input: bit shipments, product mix, manufacturing costs, and execution also matter. A supplier with more exposure to high-demand or higher-margin products may benefit differently from one selling a different mix or operating under different customer contracts.

Micron’s fiscal Q3 2026 results show the mechanics, not a universal outcome

Micron reported fiscal Q3 2026 DRAM revenue of $31.3 billion, up 343% year over year. It said DRAM prices rose in the low-60s percentage range sequentially, while bit shipments increased in the low-single-digit percentage range. For NAND, Micron reported fiscal Q3 2026 revenue of $9.9 billion, up 361% year over year; prices rose in the mid-80s percentage range sequentially and bit shipments increased in the mid-single-digit percentage range.

Micron’s consolidated fiscal Q3 2026 gross margin was 84.9%, up 10 percentage points sequentially. The company attributed the improvement primarily to higher pricing, with strong execution and favorable mix also contributing. These are Micron’s company-reported figures for its fiscal quarter, not a calendar-quarter result or an industry-wide margin measure. They illustrate how price, shipments, mix, and execution can combine in one supplier’s results; they do not establish that every chipmaker will see the same effect.

How higher memory prices reach device makers and buyers

Memory is a component cost for PC, smartphone, and storage-device makers. When that cost rises, a device maker can try to pass some of it on through higher prices, reduce memory or storage configurations, or absorb the increase and accept pressure on its own margins. The choice depends on competition, customer expectations, and how much the market will tolerate.

TrendForce reported that higher memory costs were feeding into notebook prices in 3Q26, while consumer affordability constrained price increases. If devices become less affordable, buyers may delay upgrades or choose lower-capacity configurations. Weaker purchasing can then limit demand and temper suppliers’ pricing power, linking component prices back to the next round of market negotiations.

How to interpret a memory-price headline

  • Check the memory type: DRAM and NAND do not necessarily move together.
  • Check the end market: Server and AI products can face different demand and supply conditions from PC, mobile, and consumer products.
  • Check the price measure: Contract forecasts are not the same as spot quotes or retail prices.
  • Check the period and date: A forecast applies to its stated quarter and may be revised as demand, inventory, and supply change.
  • Separate price from performance: A selling-price increase does not by itself establish how revenue or margin will change; shipment volume, product mix, costs, and execution matter too.
