In an ordinary personal text, “ft” usually means “FaceTime.” For example, “Wanna ft later?” means “Do you want to FaceTime later?”
However, the abbreviation changes meaning depending on where it appears. In a song title, it usually means “featuring”; after a number, it means “foot” or “feet”; and in a gaming or marketplace listing, it can mean “for trade.”
The most common texting meaning: FaceTime
When someone sends ft by itself in a personal conversation, they are usually referring to Apple’s FaceTime calling service. People commonly use it as either a verb or a noun:
| Text | Meaning |
|---|---|
| “Wanna ft later?” | “Do you want to FaceTime later?” |
| “Can you ft me?” | “Can you call me on FaceTime?” |
| “I’m on ft.” | “I’m on a FaceTime call.” |
| “Ft me when you get home.” | “FaceTime me when you get home.” |
The surrounding words are the best clue. If ft appears next to words such as wanna, call, me, or later, “FaceTime” is the most likely interpretation.

Does “ft” mean FaceTime for Android users?
Not necessarily. FaceTime started as an Apple service, but Android and Windows users can join a FaceTime call through a web browser if an Apple user sends them a FaceTime link. Apple says the browser method requires the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
So, “Wanna ft?” still normally suggests a FaceTime call, but the recipient does not always need an iPhone. The sender may need to create and share a FaceTime link first. FaceTime links were introduced with iOS 15 and macOS Monterey.
“ft” can mean “featuring”
In music credits, video titles, and collaboration posts, ft. normally means “featuring.” It identifies someone who contributes to or appears in the main work.
- “Drake ft. SZA” means a Drake song featuring SZA.
- “New song ft. my brother” means the song features the writer’s brother.
- “Video ft. @alex” means the video features Alex.
You may also see feat. or the complete word featuring. A period is common in music credits, but punctuation is not a guaranteed test. The topic matters more: a song, video, or collaboration caption usually points to “featuring.”

Other meanings of “FT”
For trade
In gaming, collectibles, and buy/sell/trade communities, FT can mean “for trade.”
For example, “Pikachu FT” means the person is offering Pikachu in exchange for another item. This meaning is more likely in a listing or trading conversation than in a private social text.
Foot or feet
In measurements, ft. is the standard abbreviation for foot or feet:
- “The room is 12 ft. wide.”
- “He is 6 ft. tall.”
This is a conventional measurement abbreviation, not text slang.

Full-time
In job listings, schedules, sports, and workplace messages, FT can mean full-time or full time.
- “FT employee” means a full-time employee.
- “The match ended FT” can mean the match ended at full time.
Financial Times
In business or news discussions, the FT commonly refers to The Financial Times, the newspaper.
For example, “The FT reported the change” means that the Financial Times reported it.
“Fuck that”
Some slang references use FT as an abbreviation for “fuck that.” This is a less standardized meaning and should not be assumed automatically. It may fit a short reply expressing rejection or annoyance:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors“They want us to work all weekend.”
“FT.”
Because this use can be confused with the other meanings, interpret it only when the surrounding conversation clearly indicates refusal, frustration, or disagreement.
How to tell which meaning is intended
- Check the conversation topic. A personal call suggests FaceTime; a song suggests “featuring”; a game listing suggests “for trade.”
- Look at the words around it. “Ft me” almost certainly means “FaceTime me,” while “Artist ft. Artist” means “featuring.”
- Check for numbers or units. “6 ft” means six feet, not FaceTime.
- Consider capitalization and punctuation, but do not rely on them alone. “ft.” is common in music credits, yet people may omit the period or capitalize the abbreviation inconsistently.
- Ask if the message is genuinely ambiguous. A quick “Do you mean FaceTime?” avoids replying to the wrong interpretation.
