The exact meaning of the added “0Q” suffix is not confirmed by the available Samsung documentation. Samsung’s 2013 guide identifies the base model M393A2G40DB0-CPB as a 16GB, 2Rx4, 288-pin DDR4 registered DIMM (RDIMM)—not an LRDIMM—and says its RCD and data-buffer codes are Samsung-specific rather than JEDEC identifiers. The guide does not decode “0Q” itself. Samsung DDR4 product guide
What the base model tells you
Samsung’s December 2013 DDR4 product guide lists M393A2G40DB0-CPB in its 288-pin DDR4 Registered DIMM table. The specified module is 16GB, 2Rx4. The guide lists LRDIMMs separately, under the M386 model family. So describing this M393A model as an LRDIMM is inconsistent with Samsung’s product classification. Samsung DDR4 product guide
Samsung’s current DDR page likewise treats RDIMM and LRDIMM as distinct module categories; it describes RDIMMs as registered modules used for server platforms. Samsung DDR page
What is—and is not—known about “0Q”
The guide explains that some RCD and data-buffer identifiers are codes used by Samsung, not JEDEC-standard codes. That makes a proprietary component-related meaning plausible, but the guide’s available code table does not map “0Q” to a specific buffer vendor, chip, revision, or compatibility characteristic. The most accurate answer is therefore that the precise meaning of “0Q” is unconfirmed.

- Compatible Memory (RAM) Replacement for Samsung M393A2G40DB0-CPB
Do not treat the full string M393A2G40DB0-CPB(0Q) as proof that 0Q names a particular buffer or revision. A discussion of CPB0Q and CPB3Q variants records owners’ questions and speculation, but does not establish what either suffix means. Reddit discussion
How to check whether a particular stick will work
Do not decide interchangeability from the final suffix alone. Compare the module’s complete label and, when available, its SPD data; then check the server manufacturer’s memory support list and population rules.

- Module type: Confirm the server accepts DDR4 ECC RDIMMs. Do not substitute an LRDIMM based on a similar-looking model string.
- Capacity and organization: Check the module’s capacity and rank/organization against the server’s supported configurations. Samsung specifies 16GB and 2Rx4 for the documented base model.
- Speed: Match the module’s DDR4 speed grade to the platform’s supported memory speeds and population rules.
- Full identity: Compare all printed part-number and label details, and SPD information where available. A shared base model does not establish that suffix variants are identical.
If an exact suffix decode matters, ask Samsung or the system vendor for a record that maps the complete part number, or inspect the module’s SPD and component markings. Without that evidence, do not infer the component maker or assume CPB0Q and CPB3Q are interchangeable.
