Arcade Archives is HAMSTER Corporation’s series of classic arcade games re-released for modern platforms. The key difference from a console port is the game’s source: an Arcade Archives release represents an arcade version, while a console port is a version adapted for home-console hardware. HAMSTER’s separate Console Archives series covers classic games that originally appeared on home consoles.
What does “Arcade Archives” mean?
Arcade Archives is HAMSTER’s label for modern-platform releases of classic arcade games. The company describes the series as reproducing arcade games “staying true to its original.” That is HAMSTER’s description of its aim; it does not establish that every release is bit-perfect or identical to original arcade hardware.
The label identifies the release’s arcade-game lineage, not a single universal feature set. Depending on the game, releases may include adjustable settings, online high-score rankings, or CRT-style display options. Check the individual game listing for what it supports.
How is an Arcade Archives game different from a console port?
The distinction is about the version’s source, not simply the device you play it on. An arcade game can be adapted for a home console; that adaptation is a console port. An Arcade Archives release, by contrast, is based on the arcade version, even though you play it on a modern console or another supported platform.

“Port” describes a version’s relationship to a platform; it does not, by itself, say where the game first appeared. When comparing a specific title, identify the exact release and platform rather than assuming that an arcade release, a historical console port, and a later reissue are interchangeable.
Is Arcade Archives the same as Console Archives?
No. HAMSTER says Console Archives is designed to bring classic games originally released on home consoles to modern platforms. Its listed options include customizable button layouts, rapid-fire settings, multiple save points, rewind, screen-layout adjustments, and filters. Those are Console Archives features and should not be assumed to be available in Arcade Archives.

Do all Arcade Archives releases have the same features?
No. HAMSTER lists adjustable settings, online high-score rankings, and title-dependent CRT-style display options for Arcade Archives, but an individual release’s feature list is the reliable guide. Related labels can also have distinct options. For ACA2NEOGEO, HAMSTER has cited Time Attack and online Network Mode, while warning that not every title includes all additional features.

- Modes and players: supported play modes and player count.
- Controls and display: available button, screen, filter, or CRT-style options.
- Store and region: whether that exact release is listed for your platform and country or region.
Which platforms have Arcade Archives games?
Availability varies by title, platform, store, and region; there is no single platform rule for the whole catalog. For example, HAMSTER’s March 26, 2026 announcement for FINAL LAP, a 1987 Namco arcade racing game, listed Arcade Archives for Nintendo Switch and PS4, and Arcade Archives 2 for Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. That is an example for one game, not a guarantee about other titles. Confirm availability in your regional store.
HAMSTER’s February 2025 ACA NEOGEO announcement also described a platform expansion and noted that online-store availability differs by country or region. Older announcements are useful for understanding a release history, but current store listings are the better source for a purchase decision.

How large is the series?
HAMSTER reported that Arcade Archives and ACA NEOGEO together reached 400 available titles in January 2024, then 500 distributed titles in December 2025. These are company-reported milestones for the combined series, not a live count of Arcade Archives releases alone.

HAMSTER says Arcade Archives became available on PlayStation 4 in May 2014. The series has since appeared across multiple modern platforms, with each title’s current platform support depending on its specific release.

How to choose between an Arcade Archives release and a console port
- Decide which historical version you want. Choose the arcade-origin release if you want the arcade version; choose a console port if you specifically want that home-console adaptation.
- Compare the exact editions. Look at the title’s store page for platform, modes, player count, control and display options, and whether the release is Arcade Archives or Arcade Archives 2.
- Check your regional store. Listings and availability can differ by country or region, and announced platforms are not a guarantee that every game is available on each one.
