Webflow’s code export gives you a ZIP of static site files—HTML, CSS, JavaScript and images—not a complete copy of a Webflow-hosted site. CMS content, accounts, ecommerce, secondary locales and several hosted features are left behind, so plan replacements before moving the exported files to another host.
What’s in a Webflow code export ZIP?
Webflow’s documented export includes HTML files for site pages, three stylesheets, JavaScript files and images uploaded through the Assets panel. The stylesheets are the site-specific CSS, webflow.css for base layout and components such as navbars, sliders and tabs, and normalize.css for more consistent browser rendering. JavaScript supports interactive features and interactions; removing it can leave pages styled but not working as expected. Webflow’s export guide also notes that Collection template pages may appear as empty templates.
The files can be edited and hosted on another server without Webflow attribution or retaining a Webflow plan for that externally hosted site. Manual edits can, however, break Webflow components. Export availability is separate from hosting: Webflow’s help article, updated October 31, 2025, says code export is available on paid Workspace plans, not Site plans. The documented workflow is to open the site’s Code export menu, prepare the ZIP and download it.
What does not transfer?
The export is not a portable copy of Webflow’s databases or hosted services. The following exclusions and behavior changes are documented by Webflow:

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- CMS: Collections, Collection items, Collection lists and CMS functionality are not included. Collection lists show an empty state, and Collection pages do not display content bound to Collection fields.
- User Accounts: Account data and functionality are not included.
- Ecommerce: Product content, databases, checkout and associated functionality are not included.
- Localization: Only the primary locale is exported; localized pages, elements and content for other locales are absent.
- Code components: These are not included in the exported code.
- Password protection: Password-protected pages are no longer protected after export.
- Site search and forms: Search and Webflow’s form submission processing do not work as expected on an exported site. Existing submissions are not in the ZIP, although Webflow says they can be exported separately. reCAPTCHA elements in forms are not included.
These are export limitations, not barriers to building similar capabilities independently. Depending on the site, replacements may mean choosing a CMS or application backend, ecommerce platform, authentication and access-control system, search service, localization infrastructure or custom implementation.
How forms work after export
Webflow’s built-in form processing does not continue when the exported files are hosted elsewhere. Webflow’s guide to collecting submissions on exported sites, updated November 13, 2025, says to route submissions to a third-party service or use an embedded third-party form.

If you keep a native form element, Webflow documents setting its action URL to the provider’s endpoint and matching the required submission method, usually POST; Mailchimp is given as an example. Check the chosen provider’s current instructions and data-handling requirements. Exported files do not include existing form submissions, so retrieve those separately if you need them.
Why exported JavaScript does not replace Webflow Logic
The ZIP’s JavaScript supports client-side interface behavior such as tabs, sliders, navbars and interactions. That is different from server-backed services and content. Webflow says Logic flows, CMS and Ecommerce content are not included in exported code, and Logic requires hosting to work as expected. Webflow’s Logic export guidance explains this limitation. A working slider in the ZIP does not mean that a CMS, form processor or Logic workflow has moved with it.

What you take on when you host the ZIP elsewhere
Webflow’s comparison of custom hosting, Webflow hosting and code export distinguishes exported files from Webflow’s hosted services. With code export, deployment is manual through a DevOps pipeline; form handling requires a third-party service or custom backend, and CMS is unavailable. SEO metadata in exported code is static and manually editable. CMS-driven SEO fields cannot remain functional without the CMS.
Before choosing export, map the site’s dependencies and assign an owner for each replacement:

- Dynamic pages or data: Identify whether CMS collections or other changing content need a replacement source.
- Accounts, commerce, passwords, search or additional locales: Decide whether to rebuild each capability, use another service or remove it.
- Forms: Select a submission endpoint or embedded form, then test where submissions are stored and who can access them.
- Publishing and maintenance: Plan who will manage deployment, code changes and ongoing updates outside Webflow.
- Metadata: Identify which SEO fields are static and manually maintained versus generated from CMS content.
Export is a closer fit for a mostly static site whose pages and assets can operate without Webflow data or hosted services. If a site depends on dynamic content or several of the excluded capabilities, the ZIP alone is not a complete migration; compare the work of replacing those services with keeping Webflow hosting or moving to another platform.
