Warhammer Survivors is a standalone game, not a Vampire Survivors DLC or a simple reskin. It shares the survivors-style loop of fighting enemy swarms and improving a character during a run, but brings in characters and settings from Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. As of October 7, 2026, Warhammer Survivors is scheduled to launch November 10, 2026, and has a demo; Vampire Survivors has been available since 2022.
How the two games are related
Warhammer Community describes Warhammer Survivors as “completely standalone.” Auroch Digital is developing it in partnership with Warhammer and poncle; poncle developed and published Vampire Survivors. The connection is a shared genre lineage, not an expansion relationship: Warhammer Survivors is its own game.
Both use a run-based survivors-style structure. You face crowds of enemies, strengthen your character as a run progresses, and pursue unlocks or other progression. The official descriptions do not establish that the games have identical balance, pacing, or feel.
The biggest difference is the setting and cast
Warhammer’s worlds and characters
Warhammer Survivors draws from both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. Announced characters include Malum Caedo, Neave Blacktalon, Morvenn Vahl, and Lyssa Revenya; enemy examples include Tyranids, Skaven, and Orks. Its appeal is closely tied to those established factions, weapons, and grim settings.

Vampire Survivors’ gothic-horror setting
Vampire Survivors is poncle’s original game, described on Steam as a time-survival game with minimalistic gameplay and roguelite elements. Its setting centers on gothic horror and night creatures rather than Warhammer’s named universes and factions.
What the gameplay descriptions confirm
In both games, a run is about surviving enemy pressure while building up your character. Warhammer Survivors’ announced loop emphasizes gaining experience, collecting weapons and power-ups, evolving weapon combinations, and unlocking characters and gear. Vampire Survivors describes gathering gold during a run and using it to buy upgrades that help a later survivor.

Those descriptions show a common format, not a direct measure of how either game plays moment to moment. Difficulty, average run length, balance, performance, and overall feel cannot be reliably compared from the official descriptions alone.
Release status, demo, and platforms
Warhammer Community’s October 6, 2026 update sets Warhammer Survivors’ launch for November 10, 2026. The publisher says a demo is available on Steam and Xbox for PC, featuring two heroes: the Legend of Catachan and Lyssa Revenya. It also announced more than 40 playable characters and more than 70 weapons; those are publisher-announced totals as of October 6, not independently verified final launch counts.

Auroch Digital lists Warhammer Survivors for PC (Steam and GOG), Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and mobile (iOS and Android). A platform listing does not establish that every edition will be available in every territory on the same date, so check the relevant store for local availability.
Steam lists Vampire Survivors’ release date as October 20, 2022. Nintendo lists its Switch release as August 17, 2023. The official Steam and Nintendo listings confirm PC and Switch availability, respectively; these are not a complete platform comparison.

Multiplayer is not confirmed on equal terms
Vampire Survivors’ official Steam listing includes online co-op, and Nintendo says the Switch version supports one to four players in local couch co-op. The official Warhammer Survivors information cited here does not establish whether it supports co-op. Do not assume multiplayer parity based on the shared genre.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose Vampire Survivors if you want the released original, or if its gothic-horror setting and documented co-op options suit you.
- Keep an eye on Warhammer Survivors if you want a survivors-style game built around Warhammer characters and worlds. Its launch is scheduled for November 10, 2026, and its demo offers a way to sample two heroes before release.
- Wait for release details if your decision depends on Warhammer Survivors’ co-op, difficulty, run length, performance, or platform-specific availability; those points are not settled by the official descriptions cited here.
