The Wahoo TICKR X is a chest-strap heart-rate monitor with Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity, plus manufacturer-described onboard workout memory and running metrics. It may suit someone who already owns one or finds a well-priced unit in good condition, but it is a legacy model rather than a current Wahoo lineup choice. Wahoo’s published specifications describe what it is designed to do; they are not independent accuracy or reliability test results.
What is the Wahoo TICKR X?
TICKR X pairs a chest-worn sensor with a strap and can connect to a smartphone, tablet or GPS watch. Wahoo says it tracks heart rate, calories burned and workout time, and supports Bluetooth 4.0 and ANT+. Its additional features include built-in memory for workouts without a phone, three-dimensional running-form monitoring, and indoor-cycling cadence workouts through the Wahoo Fitness app.
Wahoo describes the running metrics as cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time. These are the manufacturer’s stated capabilities; the available material does not establish how accurately they perform in independent testing. Wahoo’s support page says: “The TICKR X features built in memory enabling you to train without your smartphone and sync your data later.” Wahoo Fitness Support: TICKR X Heart Rate Monitor Information and Setup.

Does TICKR X work with your phone, watch or bike computer?
Wahoo says TICKR X is designed for Apple devices running iOS 11 or newer. The Wahoo Fitness Android app supports most Bluetooth-compliant Android devices on Android 6 or newer, but Wahoo cautions that compatibility varies and is not guaranteed. Check the specific phone and app requirements rather than assuming that an Android version alone ensures a connection.
The sensor can also work with various Windows and Mac applications that support Bluetooth and/or ANT+. Wahoo recommends ANT+ for Windows PCs. For a bike computer or GPS watch, confirm that the device supports the connection type you intend to use and can pair with an external heart-rate sensor. Wahoo says its Wahoo Fitness app, available for iOS and Android, is required for important firmware updates. Its detailed compatibility guidance is the best reference before pairing an older unit.

Can you use the TICKR X without your phone?
Wahoo says the built-in memory allows a workout to be recorded without a smartphone and synced later. That can be useful for phone-free training, but it does not mean the strap replaces every feature of a watch or bike computer: check how your intended app or device handles stored workouts and synchronisation. Wahoo’s setup page is the source for the memory claim; no independent test of recording or sync behaviour is established here.
How to wear and pair a TICKR X
- Attach the sensor. Snap it onto one side of the strap.
- Fit and moisten the strap. Adjust it to sit snugly but comfortably. Moisten the contact points on the back of the strap with saliva or electrode gel, as Wahoo instructs.
- Put it on and wake it. Fasten the strap around your chest. Wahoo says wearing the unit or touching both buckle terminals wakes it.
- Pair in the app. Open Wahoo Fitness, select the sensor and install any update the app offers.
Pairing steps can differ in other apps or on head units; use the device maker’s instructions when connecting directly to a watch or bike computer. Wahoo’s full directions are on its setup page.

Battery and strap care
Wahoo specifies a CR2032 battery and says battery life can be up to 12 months. That is a manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed interval; actual life can depend on use and storage. Consult Wahoo’s guide for the battery replacement procedure rather than improvising one.
After use, Wahoo recommends washing the strap with soap and warm water, then hanging it to dry fully. Avoid strong chemicals and solvents. For storage, unbuckle at least one side to reduce unintended battery drain. The sensor’s IPX7 rating is Wahoo’s stated water-resistance specification, not a reason to skip strap care.

Is the TICKR X still worth buying?
It can make sense if you want a chest strap with both Bluetooth and ANT+, value the advertised offline memory or running metrics, and can verify that the particular unit works with your devices. The case is weaker if you need a current product with clearly verified seller support, a fresh warranty, or assurance about condition: a used strap’s wear and an older sensor’s history are specific to the listing, not settled by its original specifications.
Wahoo’s support policy distinguishes current, discontinued and obsolete products; it says a discontinued product may still receive informational, hardware and software support. The policy means discontinued does not automatically mean unsupported, but it does not guarantee the support available for an individual purchase. Check the Wahoo product support definitions and status, then confirm stock, condition, warranty, return terms and firmware support with the seller before paying.

What replaced the Wahoo TICKR X?
Wahoo’s current heart-rate monitor page features TRACKR HEART RATE and TICKR FIT, while a Cyclingnews comparison published 28 September 2026 describes TRACKR as replacing the TICKR and TICKR X range. That supports treating TICKR X as part of Wahoo’s legacy lineup, not as a product whose new-retail availability is assured. Wahoo’s current range is shown on its heart-rate monitor page; Cyclingnews’ 2026 heart-rate monitor comparison describes TRACKR as rechargeable, with a claimed 100-hour battery life and IPX7 rating. Those TRACKR details do not apply to TICKR X, and do not establish its price, stock or warranty at any seller.
If you are comparing the older strap with a current alternative, weigh the features that matter to your routine: chest-strap fit, workout memory, running metrics, battery or charging method, Bluetooth/ANT+ support, device compatibility, support status, and the exact seller’s price, condition and return policy. Verify each product’s specifications separately rather than assuming TRACKR or TICKR FIT reproduces the TICKR X feature set.
