What Vodafone TV includes—and what it costs
Vodafone’s 2 October 2026 launch announcement lists Vodafone TV at £10 per month and Vodafone TV Essential at £17 per month. Both are described as 24-month plans, with annual plan charge increases scheduled for 1 April 2027 and 1 April 2028. Essential includes Netflix Standard with Ads and HBO Max Standard with Ads under those launch terms. Check the current offer and contract terms before ordering.
The announcement also advertised Essential at no extra charge for the first 24 months for new customers taking Pro Broadband through 28 October 2026. That was a launch-period promotion, not a standard ongoing price.

Vodafone says the service brings together Freely, additional live channels, apps, games, rentals and purchases, profiles, smart search, a companion app and selected content in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Its release describes Freely as offering over 70 live channels and thousands of hours of on-demand content, with 150+ additional live channels. Vodafone’s package page instead headlines 200+ live channels, so these figures should not be treated as a single independently reconciled channel total.
Vodafone’s package terms state that a qualifying Vodafone Home Broadband or Pay Monthly Airtime plan is required, along with an internet connection, minimum 20 Mbps broadband download speed and a valid TV licence. Confirm that your exact Vodafone plan and purchase route qualify.

What Freeview and Freeview Play require
Freeview live TV
Freeview is the UK’s digital terrestrial television service. Freeview says it offers over 100 channels at no monthly cost, but the lineup a household can receive varies by location. Check your postcode with Freeview’s channel availability information before choosing it.
You need a compatible television, box or recorder and a working aerial. Freeview says TVs bought after 2010 already have Freeview built in, but that does not guarantee support for every newer feature. An indoor or portable aerial may work in some locations; Freeview recommends a roof aerial for the best results. See its equipment guidance.

Freeview Play catch-up and recording
Freeview Play adds internet-connected features on compatible equipment, including access to supported catch-up services such as BBC iPlayer, ITVX, All 4, 5 and UKTV Play alongside live TV. Freeview states that catch-up and on-demand use needs an internet connection of at least 2 Mbps. App availability varies by device. A compatible Freeview Play recorder can add pause, rewind and recording; check the particular model for the functions you want.
Freeview channels do not carry a monthly subscription charge, but you may need to pay for a receiver, recorder or aerial work. A TV licence is a separate UK legal requirement when watching broadcast TV; Freeview does not remove that requirement. Freeview’s cost guidance explains the service’s charges.

Which service fits your household?
Choose Freeview if
- You mainly want free-to-view live channels and the channels you want are available at your address.
- You have a working aerial and compatible TV or receiver, or are willing to arrange the equipment you lack.
- You do not need Vodafone TV’s paid aggregation or included subscription bundle.
- You want catch-up as well as live TV and have compatible Freeview Play equipment with an internet connection.
Choose Vodafone TV if
- You meet Vodafone’s customer and plan requirements and your broadband meets its stated minimum speed.
- You value having Freely, additional channels, apps and games together in one service.
- You would actually use Netflix Standard with Ads and HBO Max Standard with Ads, making Essential’s bundle relevant to subscriptions you already pay for or would otherwise buy.
- You are comfortable with the 24-month commitment and the plan’s scheduled annual price increases.
Do not decide from headline channel totals alone. Compare the channels you watch, the subscriptions you would genuinely use, Vodafone’s full current terms, your Freeview postcode results and the equipment and aerial you already have. Freeview and Vodafone TV also rely on different delivery routes: terrestrial reception for Freeview live channels and internet streaming for Vodafone TV.

Questions to check before switching or signing up
- Check Freeview at your address: use the postcode checker and confirm that the wanted channels are receivable.
- Check your equipment: establish whether your TV has a suitable receiver, whether the aerial works, and whether you need Freeview Play recording or pause/rewind features.
- Check Vodafone eligibility and terms: confirm your qualifying plan, the current monthly charge, contract length, price-change terms and broadband speed.
- Compare subscriptions on real use: count Netflix or HBO Max as useful only if the included ad-supported tiers meet your needs and you would otherwise pay for them.
- Account for separate costs: include any receiver or aerial work, and remember that a TV licence is separate from either service’s price.
