For a YouTube stream that must play local videos sequentially and loop them, vMix is the better-documented fit. Its List input can advance through videos and restart at the beginning. XSplit Broadcaster documents a looping Media Slideshow for BRB or sponsor displays, but the available documentation does not establish that it works as an equivalent, automatically advancing playlist. Neither program should be treated as a full time-of-day television scheduler.

Which program fits a looping playlist?
Choose vMix if your central requirement is loading a list of local video files, playing them one after another and repeating the list. vMix documents those functions directly. Choose XSplit only after confirming that its slideshow feature handles your intended sequence; the vendor material reviewed describes looping media for display, not a confirmed sequential playlist workflow.

For XSplit, the conclusion is about documentation, not proof that the workflow is impossible. Try the free version or trial with the actual files and scene arrangement before relying on it for a long-running playlist.

Does vMix support scheduling?
It supports basic playback automation, not a broadcast-style schedule. In its support page, vMix says: “vMix is primarily designed for live streaming single events and as such does not support time of day scheduling.” A repeating List can run through its contents and loop; it does not create a lineup that changes programs at specified times of day.
That distinction matters if “nonstop” means one list repeating continuously. If it means separate shows, dayparts, timed breaks or a programming grid, do not assume the List or Playlist feature supplies that schedule. vMix describes Playlist as basic automation and says it can be used with a List for more advanced playback sequences, but it still is not time-of-day scheduling.

How to set up a repeating video list in vMix
- Add the List input: In vMix, add a List input and load the local video files you want to play. The List treats multiple videos as one input. vMix notes that it need not load every video at once, which can reduce resource use for larger collections.
- Check Auto Next: Enable or confirm Auto Next so playback advances to the next video when the current one ends. The vMix guide describes Auto Next as enabled by default.
- Enable Loop: Set the List to loop so it restarts from the beginning when it reaches the end. Verify the end-of-list behavior with your chosen files before going live.
- Put the input on output: Add the List to the active production output and configure the YouTube stream using vMix’s current streaming setup. Confirm the correct YouTube destination and stream key in the software and YouTube Studio before starting.
- Run a supervised test: Let the full list reach its end and confirm it starts over, check that audio and video stay in sync, and monitor the YouTube live control room. Do not treat a successful test as a guarantee of unattended uptime.
Large files, codecs, resolution, frame rate and the machine’s available resources affect playback performance. The sources reviewed do not establish universal recommended encoding settings for this workflow, so use media and output settings supported by your machine and verify them in a test stream.
What XSplit documents—and what remains to verify
XSplit Broadcaster is scene-based broadcast software with YouTube output. Its product page describes a Media Slideshow that can loop multiple images or videos for a BRB screen or sponsor display. That confirms a looping media use case, but it does not establish that the slideshow automatically advances through a long sequential video playlist indefinitely.

XSplit’s YouTube setup guide covers authorizing and configuring YouTube Live and creating a scheduled event in YouTube Studio before launching it through Broadcaster. Scheduling the event is separate from automating which videos play and when. If you want to try XSplit for a playlist, verify in the current free version or trial that your sequence advances, restarts as required and behaves correctly when a file ends.
Requirements, connection and YouTube readiness
XSplit’s published minimums
XSplit Support lists Windows 10/11 64-bit and 8 GB RAM as minimum system requirements. It states a 500 kbps minimum upload speed for the lowest streaming settings; that figure should not be treated as sufficient for an HD playlist stream. XSplit’s product page recommends at least 5 Mbps upload for HD stream quality. These figures refer to different quality contexts. Check the vendor’s current requirements against your intended resolution and bitrate rather than relying on the lowest-setting minimum.

Enable YouTube Live ahead of time
XSplit’s setup guide says YouTube live enablement may require channel verification and approval can take up to 24 hours. Platform requirements can change, so check YouTube Studio directly and complete any required setup before the planned broadcast.
Plan for the whole chain
With either desktop program, the stream depends on a running computer, stable power and internet, working playback, the software’s connection to YouTube and an active YouTube session. The comparison sources do not establish recovery behavior after a dropped connection, protection against Windows updates or a guarantee of uninterrupted broadcasting. Arrange monitoring and a recovery plan rather than assuming the software will run unattended indefinitely.
