How the V30 and V40 differ in practical terms
Battery capacity and charging
The V40 has a 5,500mAh typical-capacity battery, compared with 5,000mAh typical for the V30. Both list charging up to 80W. The 500mAh capacity difference is a specification, not a measured battery-life advantage; actual endurance and charging time are not established by these figures. vivo notes that charging behavior can vary with the charger, usage, battery level, and conditions. vivo’s V30 product material discusses its charging conditions.

Camera features
Both models list a 50MP OIS main rear camera, a 50MP autofocus wide-angle rear camera, and a 50MP autofocus front camera. vivo’s V40 material adds ZEISS branding to the front and rear cameras and highlights portrait tools and group-selfie features; its parameter listing gives the front camera a 92° field of view. These are feature differences, not independent evidence that the V40 produces better images.
Protection and build
vivo claims IP68 dust and water resistance for the V40 on its India store listing. That is the manufacturer’s product claim, not an independent durability test or a promise that water or dust damage is impossible. The reviewed V30 India store listing did not identify an IP68 claim. The listed V40 is 4g heavier and 0.13mm thicker, while its dimensions are slightly shorter and narrower; measurements can vary. vivo V40 store listing.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose the V40 if its added features matter to you
- You value its larger rated battery capacity.
- You want the ZEISS-branded camera features and portrait tools listed by vivo.
- You consider vivo’s IP68 claim important.
- Its current price is close to the V30’s for the same configuration.
This is a specification-based recommendation, not a result from hands-on testing.
Consider the V30 if it is meaningfully cheaper
- You are satisfied with the shared processor and display specifications.
- The listed camera hardware meets your needs without the V40’s branded portrait feature set.
