A blank screenshot is a symptom, not a diagnosis. First open the exact page in a normal browser using the same URL and sign-in state. If the page is blank there too, investigate the site, browser, network, scripts, or access. If the live page looks right, focus on the capture’s timing, context, and scope. The guidance below is general browser troubleshooting; VisualScraper’s exact product identity, version, and settings have not been established.
First identify what is blank
- Open the exact target URL interactively. Use the same browser state, account, and URL path as the capture where possible. Note whether the page is fully blank, partially rendered, showing a login or access page, or simply missing content below the fold.
- Compare it with the saved capture. If both are blank, changing screenshot settings is unlikely to fix the underlying page or access problem. Check the page’s scripts, network dependencies, browser state, and permissions. If the interactive page is correct but the image is not, investigate capture timing, browser context, and capture mode. This is a general diagnostic method, not a verified VisualScraper support instruction. iTechGuides’ general blank-screenshot troubleshooting also recommends comparing the page and capture.
- Record the setup before changing it. Note the exact VisualScraper product and version, target URL, capture mode, authentication method, and whether the page is blank in a normal browser. Those details are needed to distinguish product-specific behavior from general rendering problems.
Wait for the content, not just navigation
A browser navigation or load event does not guarantee that a JavaScript-driven page has rendered the content you need. The initial document can load before an application fetches and paints its data. If the capture is taken at that point, it may show a white region, a shell with no content, or an intermediate state.
Use a meaningful readiness signal
When the capture workflow supports it, wait for a specific content element or application-ready marker rather than relying only on navigation completion. A selector tied to the needed content is more useful than an arbitrary pause because it tests whether the relevant state has appeared. Vendor guidance from WebscrapingHQ’s screenshot documentation describes JavaScript rendering and wait behavior as relevant to incomplete captures; it is not VisualScraper documentation.
Use delays sparingly
If a transition or delayed render is the issue and no reliable readiness marker is available, add a bounded delay, then compare results. Avoid an indefinitely long wait: it adds capture time without proving the page reached the right state. If the page never displays the content interactively, a longer screenshot wait will not repair the underlying problem.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check whether the capture includes the missing area
A viewport capture contains the visible browser area; it can omit content below the fold by design. Confirm whether the workflow is capturing the viewport, the full page, or a particular element. Scrape.do’s screenshot documentation describes these as distinct capture modes.
For content that loads on scroll
Some pages fetch or render lower sections only after a visitor scrolls. If the missing content is lazy-loaded, check whether the workflow must scroll or otherwise trigger that content before taking the screenshot. Full-page mode does not guarantee that every site’s lazy-loading behavior will be activated; compare the result after explicitly triggering the relevant area when the tool permits it.

For a missing element
If the rest of the page is visible and only one embedded region or canvas is absent, narrow the investigation to that asset or the browser security boundary it uses. Canvas security is one possible specialized cause, not a default explanation for an entirely blank screenshot. General troubleshooting references discuss canvas among possible issues, but that does not establish a VisualScraper defect. iTechGuides’ overview provides general context.
If the screenshot comes from an API, verify the response
A file with a .png or .jpg extension is not necessarily an image. An API may return an error document that the client saves under the requested image filename, making an access or service problem look like a blank capture.

- Record the HTTP status code.
- Check the response content type and inspect the response body before opening the saved file as an image.
- Look for an invalid request, missing or rejected credentials, an access restriction, a quota or rate limit, a rendering failure, or a temporary service problem.
- Check the service’s current account documentation for limits; exact quotas and rate limits vary by provider and can change.
ScreenshotEngine’s API error and limits documentation describes these response and access checks. It does not establish VisualScraper’s status codes, quotas, or error behavior.
Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you see | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The interactive page and screenshot are both blank | Page, network, scripts, browser state, or access | Resolve the page or access problem in the browser before changing capture settings. |
| The interactive page is correct, but the screenshot is blank or shows a shell | Capture timing or JavaScript rendering | Wait for the content element or ready marker; use a short bounded delay only when needed. |
| The top of the page appears, but lower content is missing | Viewport scope or lazy loading | Confirm full-page mode and whether scrolling is needed to trigger content. |
| Only an embedded area or canvas is missing | That asset or its browser security boundary | Investigate the region specifically rather than treating it as a whole-page rendering failure. |
| The saved image is blank and came from an API | Response may be an error body, not image data | Inspect HTTP status, content type, and response body, then check access, credentials, limits, and rendering errors. |

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; its capture options include waiting for a selector, a delay, or network idle. Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before the shot, with each removal step configurable. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP server tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
For example, this cURL request saves a WebP capture. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details.
