Village in the Shade separates free game updates from purchasable DLC. The publisher says Patch 1.20 is the first free update and is available; Patch 2 was planned as another free update for October 27, 2026, while paid DLC was planned for Spring 2027. Those latter dates and details are announcements, not confirmation that either release has happened.
How free updates differ from paid DLC
The publisher describes two kinds of post-launch content: free updates to the game and purchasable DLC. Patch 1.20 is explicitly identified as the first free update. The planned paid DLC is a separate offering; the announcement does not give its price or a finalized item-by-item content list. Some things added by a free patch still require in-game progression or an in-game purchase. That does not make the patch itself paid: Patch 1.20 is free, while its camping furniture becomes available to buy using in-game means after a specified requirement.

Camping furniture
The update adds a camping furniture series of 11 items. Obtain the Pheasant Hunting Permit in the game, then the items become purchasable from the General Store.

Silkie Chickens and Mallards
Silkie Chickens and Mallards become available from Chinana’s stall after you reach Autumn of the first year. This is a separate progression requirement from the permit needed for the camping furniture.
Quality-of-life changes and fixes
Patch 1.20 also includes improvements and bug fixes. Examples listed by the publisher include improved livestock behavior, more weeds eaten by ducks in paddies based on affection, a display for scarecrow duration, and continuous loading or unloading of processing machines while holding the button. Fixes address issues such as spawning beneath buildings under construction and event display problems.

The October 27, 2026 date and Spring 2027 window are the publisher’s announced plans. They should not be read as proof of release. The announcements establish neither platform-specific rollout details nor installation instructions. Check the official announcements for any later status or changes.

The publisher announced two digital extras: the Touring Kagatsu Artbook and the original soundtrack, Sounds from the Shade. The artbook contains key visuals and character illustrations and may include spoilers, so the publisher recommends viewing it after completing the game. The soundtrack contains all 38 in-game tracks and is credited to Kazuya Takasu and ZIZZ STUDIO. The announcement says both extras are also available separately.
