Vertiv named Paul Ryan president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), succeeding Karsten Winther. Ryan’s appointment took effect January 1, 2026, after Winther’s final day in the role on December 31, 2025. Vertiv’s executive biography and 2026 proxy statement confirm that Ryan assumed the position.
What Vertiv announced
Vertiv announced the leadership transition in a US news release dated October 13, 2025; its EMEA release followed on October 22. Both gave the same transition dates: Ryan would take over on January 1, 2026, and Winther would retire from the role effective December 31, 2025. Vertiv said Winther would remain in the position through the end of 2025 to support the handover.
At the time of the announcement, Ryan was Vertiv’s chief procurement officer. The company’s later executive biography and 2026 proxy statement identify him as EMEA president from January 1, 2026, confirming the announced change took effect.
Who is Paul Ryan?
Ryan joined the EMEA presidency after leading Vertiv’s global procurement and supply chain work. The company’s announcement described him as having more than 20 years of industry experience and more than eight years leading global procurement and supply chain at Vertiv. Its later biography describes more than 25 years of experience across global supply chains, engineering and operations. These are figures from different Vertiv materials and describe different scopes; they should not be treated as the same measure of tenure.

Vertiv also cited Ryan’s earlier operating roles in EMEA and Asia Pacific, alongside his procurement and supply-chain leadership. The announcement described his degrees as a bachelor’s degree in production management and a master’s degree in science from the University of Limerick. His company biography gives more specific degree names: Bachelor of Technology in Production Management and Master of Science in Statistics.
Why Vertiv chose Ryan
Vertiv’s stated rationale emphasized Ryan’s commercial experience, regional and global execution, and work advancing procurement and supply chains. CEO Giordano Albertazzi said Ryan’s industry and technology experience, commercial acumen, record in regional and global execution, and supply-chain expertise made him the right leader to build on the EMEA region’s foundation. That is the company’s explanation for the appointment, not an independent assessment of Ryan’s performance or its effect on regional results.

Albertazzi also credited Winther with making impactful contributions, particularly by strengthening Vertiv’s EMEA region through complex market dynamics.
