HPE and Veeam’s June 24, 2025 announcement centered on planned integration of Veeam Data Platform with HPE Morpheus VM Essentials Software. The companies described image-based VM backup, protection across multiple hypervisors, and VM mobility as goals. The collaboration later broadened to private-cloud designs, storage integrations, migration materials, and AI data-trust work. One important status point: Veeam described the Morpheus plug-in as beta in December 2025 and expected general availability in early 2026; the announcements covered here do not confirm whether it subsequently reached GA.
What the partnership announcement means
The announcement was made at HPE Discover 2025 in Las Vegas. Its central focus was integrating Veeam Data Platform with HPE Morpheus VM Essentials, HPE’s virtualization software. The intended practical outcome is to let organizations protect Morpheus virtual machines with image-based backup while supporting workloads across more than one hypervisor and enabling VM mobility, including migration and data portability from traditional hypervisor environments. These were vendor-announced goals, not evidence of universal availability or customer deployment.
The partnership also positioned other products in a broader resilience portfolio: Veeam Kasten for containerized and cloud-native workloads, and HPE Zerto for resilience. HPE and Veeam called their joint approach “Data Resilience by Design,” describing a proactive framework for data security and availability that includes HPE cybersecurity and cyber-resilience transformation and readiness services. Veeam’s June 24, 2025 announcement does not by itself establish independent validation of the framework or its outcomes.
How the collaboration developed
| Date | What the vendors announced | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| June 24, 2025 | Planned Veeam Data Platform integration with Morpheus VM Essentials; image-based VM backup, multi-hypervisor protection, and VM mobility; broader roles for Kasten and Zerto. | Announced direction and intended scope, not proof every feature was then available. |
| December 3, 2025 | A native Morpheus integration plug-in in beta, with GA expected in early 2026; discussion of Private Cloud Business Edition, StoreOnce Catalyst, Alletra storage, and joint resilience services. | Beta status and a forward-looking GA target as of that release; it does not verify later GA. |
| June 18, 2026 | Validated designs for HPE Private Cloud AI; partner-ready sizing tools and templates for HPE Private Cloud PC3000 with Morpheus VM Essentials; a vSphere-to-Morpheus migration guide; and expanded data and AI trust work. | Further vendor-described designs and materials, not a customer-specific compatibility or performance guarantee. |
The December update described hypervisor-based, image-level VM backup through the beta plug-in. It also covered Veeam Data Platform with HPE Private Cloud Business Edition, use of HPE StoreOnce Catalyst, and support for HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 NVMe and snapshot integrations. The release introduced a Data Resilience and Security Posture workshop and a Disaster Recovery Capability Maturity Analysis. Availability, geography, and terms for these services are not established by the announcement. Veeam’s December 3, 2025 release gives the dated product and service details.

Can Veeam back up HPE Morpheus VMs?
Veeam announced an integration intended to provide image-based protection for Morpheus VM Essentials workloads. In December 2025, Veeam said the native plug-in was in beta and expected GA in early 2026. That dated statement is not confirmation of current general availability. Organizations should check directly with HPE and Veeam for the plug-in’s current release status, supported Morpheus and Veeam versions, backup and restore feature limits, and licensing before designing or purchasing a deployment.
The announcement describes the direction of the integration, but it does not establish that every Morpheus configuration, storage arrangement, or recovery workflow is supported. Nor does it substitute for validating the customer’s actual infrastructure and support entitlements.

What the VMware-to-Morpheus migration materials cover
The June 2025 announcement described multi-hypervisor protection and VM mobility, including potential migration and data portability from traditional hypervisor environments. In June 2026, Veeam announced a migration guide for moving vSphere VMs to HPE Morpheus, along with sizing tools and templates for HPE Private Cloud PC3000 with Morpheus VM Essentials. These materials address a migration path; they do not establish that Veeam alone performs every migration step or that a given workload can move without modification.
Before planning a VMware-to-Morpheus move, map the workloads and dependencies, establish the source and target versions, confirm the migration method and downtime or cutover requirements, and verify how backup, recovery, storage, and licensing work in the intended target environment. The vendors’ June 18, 2026 announcement describes the guide and partner-ready deployment materials; deployment-specific compatibility still needs confirmation.

How the wider resilience portfolio fits together
- Virtual machines: Veeam Data Platform and the planned Morpheus VM Essentials integration are the core of the virtualization story.
- Containers and cloud-native applications: Veeam Kasten is included for protection of these workloads.
- Resilience: HPE Zerto is named as part of the broader portfolio, alongside the “Data Resilience by Design” framework and HPE services.
- Private cloud and storage: Later announcements discuss HPE Private Cloud Business Edition, Private Cloud AI, PC3000, StoreOnce, and Alletra integrations or designs.
- Broader infrastructure: HPE’s alliance page describes the relationship across private cloud, GreenLake, Alletra, StoreOnce, StoreEver tape, Morpheus, and other infrastructure offerings. HPE says the companies have worked together for over 10 years; that duration is HPE’s account of the relationship.
The June 2026 update also extended the collaboration into AI data preparation, governance, and resilience. Veeam described its Data and AI Trust Maturity Model and HPE Services as a pilot partner for the model. These descriptions indicate an expanded area of work, not a claim that a particular customer’s AI data is automatically governed or protected. See Veeam’s June 18, 2026 announcement and HPE’s Veeam alliance page for the vendors’ current portfolio descriptions.
Performance and savings claims need context
The June 2025 Veeam release claimed up to 90% reduction in VM license costs. The December 2025 release claimed up to 60:1 data reduction for the stated StoreOnce configuration, and described faster restores and removal of incremental-backup limits. These are vendor-published claims, not independent comparative results. Actual savings and data reduction depend on the environment, configuration, workload, and licensing terms; the releases do not establish results for an individual deployment.

What enterprises should verify before choosing this path
- Availability and support: Confirm the plug-in’s current GA status, supported versions, feature limits, and which vendor supports each part of the configuration.
- Workloads and hypervisors: Check that the source and target hypervisors, guest workloads, and required image-level backup and recovery operations are supported.
- Migration requirements: Validate portability, dependencies, cutover approach, and recovery plans for each workload rather than assuming a migration guide covers every application.
- Storage and restore objectives: Confirm StoreOnce or Alletra compatibility for the chosen design, then test restore workflows against the organization’s recovery-time and recovery-point requirements.
- Security controls: Assess backup immutability, access controls, separation of duties, and recovery procedures as part of the organization’s own resilience design.
- Deployment and commercial terms: Verify the private-cloud model, licensing, support entitlements, service availability, geography, and implementation responsibilities with HPE and Veeam.
The announcements establish a widening vendor collaboration, not independent comparative performance or customer-specific compatibility. HPE’s alliance overview and the cited Veeam releases are useful for understanding announced scope; final design decisions require confirmation against the actual environment and current product documentation.
