Choose Vampire Survivors if you want one continuous survival run that builds momentum as enemies crowd the screen. Choose Brotato if you prefer short, timed waves with a shop break between them. The key difference is the rhythm: accumulating upgrades during an ongoing run versus planning your loadout in distinct rounds.
How the two games structure a run
Vampire Survivors: continuous survival
Vampire Survivors describes itself as a time-survival game with roguelite elements. You maneuver through enemy hordes, gather experience, and add weapons and upgrades as the run unfolds. The action continues until the run ends; its Steam listing does not state a standard run duration. Gold earned can fund upgrades for future survivors, giving each attempt a connection to the next.

Brotato: timed waves and shop breaks
Brotato is a top-down arena-shooter roguelite organized around timed waves. Its Steam listing says waves last 20 to 90 seconds and describes runs as taking under 30 minutes. You collect materials during a wave, then spend them in the shop before the next one. That makes each round a natural point to reconsider what your build needs.
How builds and combat feel
Pick Vampire Survivors for in-run momentum
Weapons and upgrades accumulate while you are still fighting, so the main build decisions happen as the survival run develops. Its Steam description frames the experience around surviving hordes and becoming the “bullet hell.” The listing supports mouse, keyboard, controller, and touch input.

Pick Brotato for loadout planning
Brotato lets a character carry up to six weapons, with character traits and a broad pool of items adding further build choices. Its default combat uses auto-firing, but manual aiming is available. Because the shop separates waves, you get regular pauses to spend materials and adjust your approach instead of making every decision while the arena is active.
Which one suits your play style?
- Choose Vampire Survivors if you want the pressure and payoff of a continuous run, with upgrades that accumulate during the attempt and gold to invest in later survivors.
- Choose Brotato if short rounds, compact arenas, weapon combinations, and planned shopping breaks sound more appealing.
- If a stated run-length target matters, Brotato has a publisher-stated under-30-minute run description. The reviewed Vampire Survivors Steam page gives no comparable standard duration.
- If you want explicit enemy adjustments, Brotato lists accessibility options for enemy health, damage, and speed. That documents tuning controls, not that the game is easier overall.
Co-op and platform details
Both Steam listings describe local co-op for up to four players. The Vampire Survivors Steam listing also lists online co-op. Platform feature sets can differ, so confirm the specific edition and storefront before buying.

Store prices are regional and can change with currency, sales, and date. The pages checked on October 7, 2026 showed a US$4.99 base price for each game on Steam, CA$5.99 for Vampire Survivors on PlayStation Canada, and Brotato from £4.19 on Xbox UK.
