Vampire Survivors is the better fit if you want real-time movement, automatically firing attacks, and fast build choices while enemy waves close in. Choose Vampire Crawlers if you would rather make turn-based card decisions, chain combos, and explore a dungeon between fights. It shares recognizable characters and other series elements with Survivors, but its play rhythm is fundamentally different.
How gameplay differs
Vampire Survivors: move, survive, and build
Vampire Survivors is a top-down time-survival game with roguelite elements. You move around an arena as attacks fire automatically. Defeated enemies drop experience; leveling up lets you select new weapons or items, or improve ones you already have. The immediate challenge is positioning: stay alive as waves grow more dangerous while shaping a build that can clear them.

Its decisions happen alongside the action. You are continually moving and reacting, then making quick choices about which weapons and passive items to add or upgrade.
Vampire Crawlers: plan card combos and explore
Vampire Crawlers changes the format to a first-person dungeon crawl with turn-based, card-driven combat. You explore floors and points of interest, then play cards in ascending mana order so that each play boosts the next card’s effect. Wild cards can extend a combo, creating a different route to a powerful payoff than simply choosing weapons for a survival run.

Experience adds cards as a run progresses. Chests can provide power-ups and gems to customize cards, while your route through the dungeon determines which encounters and treasures you pursue. You can resolve turns quickly, but the decisions are still discrete and tactical rather than continuous movement under pressure.
Progression and build-making compared
| What you are choosing | Vampire Survivors | Vampire Crawlers |
|---|---|---|
| During a run | Position yourself in the arena and select or improve weapons and passive items as you level up. | Add cards, order plays by mana cost, extend combos with Wilds, and pursue dungeon encounters and treasures. |
| Customizing a build | Combine weapons and items into a setup that can handle increasingly dangerous waves. | Use gems and power-ups from chests to customize cards and shape combo potential. |
| Between runs | Gold funds upgrades that help future runs. | Unlocks and permanent stat upgrades carry progression between runs. |
Both games build toward a snowballing combination and a chaotic payoff. The difference is how you create it: Survivors rewards movement and weapon-and-item choices; Crawlers rewards card sequencing, combo extension, and dungeon routing.

Which game should you play?
- Choose Vampire Survivors if you want an arcade-like run built around real-time movement, automatic attacks, escalating waves, and quick upgrade decisions.
- Choose Vampire Crawlers if you prefer deliberate turn-based choices, card order and mana management, combo planning, and dungeon exploration.
- Try both if what you enjoy is building toward an increasingly powerful combination, but you want to experience that payoff through two different decision rhythms.
The shared characters, weapons, enemies, zones, items, and visual motifs give Crawlers a recognizable connection to Survivors. They do not make the games mechanically interchangeable. Poncle describes Crawlers as a spin-off, not a direct sequel. In an Xbox Wire interview, poncle founder and CEO Luca Galante summed up the concept: “This is just a dungeon crawler you play with cards!”

Poncle named Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation for launch. Its FAQ said mobile versions were planned for later in 2026, but the official publisher materials cited here do not confirm whether they had launched by October 7, 2026. Check a current official listing before relying on mobile availability.
Poncle estimates that completing Crawlers takes 20–30 hours, with extra time for every unlock. That is the publisher’s estimate, not an independently measured average. Both games support controllers according to their official listings and FAQ. Poncle’s FAQ said cross-save was unavailable at launch and that it was investigating cross-save for the mobile ports; its current status is not established here.

What storefront reviews can—and cannot—tell you
On October 7, 2026, Steam showed Vampire Crawlers at 95% positive recent English reviews (385 reviews) and 94% positive overall (8,521 reviews). The same-day snapshot for Vampire Survivors showed 94% positive recent English reviews (960 reviews) and 98% positive overall (128,205 reviews). These are changing storefront snapshots, not stable quality measures; their review counts and audiences are not directly comparable. For this choice, the difference in gameplay is a more useful guide than treating the percentages as a head-to-head score.
