Neither is automatically the better deal: compare the exact checkout price and stock with the used console’s condition, included accessories, return rights, and warranty evidence. New is usually the safer choice when the price difference is modest or the used seller offers little recourse. A used or refurbished PS5 Pro can make sense when the discount is meaningful and the seller provides credible testing and a clear return policy.
How do current PS5 Pro prices compare?
Prices and stock can change quickly. In a report published on October 6, 2026, Tom’s Hardware observed GameStop listing a refurbished PS5 Pro for $1,399.99. The report also saw new consoles listed for $899.99 at Sony, GameStop, and Target, but said those offers were out of stock; new listings at Best Buy and Walmart were $1,496.01 and $1,554.99, respectively. Sealed marketplace listings were around $1,300 or more. These are reported listings, not guaranteed live offers or a comprehensive market survey. At the reported $1,399.99 refurbished price, a $899.99 new listing would be much better value if it becomes available. Against the higher-priced new listings, refurbished was nominally cheaper, but the price gap has to compensate for the unknowns of prior use, cosmetic condition, and potentially weaker coverage. How much cheaper should a used PS5 Pro be?
There is no reliable fixed discount that makes every used console worthwhile. Start with the actual new and used checkout totals, including tax, shipping, and mandatory fees. Then judge whether the remaining savings are enough for the specific used listing’s risks: condition, missing or untested accessories, a short return window, and uncertain warranty eligibility.

- Favor new when the used discount is small, the seller’s return terms are weak, the console’s condition is vague, accessories are missing, or original purchase proof is unavailable.
- Consider used or refurbished when the savings are substantial for you and the seller documents testing, discloses defects or repairs, includes working accessories, and gives you a clear remedy if the console is defective.
This is a risk-and-value judgment based on the warranty and seller terms, not a claim that used PS5 Pros have a known failure rate. No controlled used-versus-new reliability comparison is established here.
Does a used PS5 Pro still have a warranty?
Do not assume it comes with a fresh one-year Sony warranty. In the United States and Canada, Sony’s limited PS5 hardware warranty covers the original purchaser for one year from the original purchase date. Sony requires valid proof of purchase showing that date for warranty service. Ask the seller for the original receipt and check remaining eligibility with Sony. Sony’s manufacturer warranty is separate from a retailer return window, a seller warranty, or an optional protection plan. GameStop’s product listing has displayed a seven-day money-back guarantee and a general 30-day return statement, while also indicating that the specific pre-owned product was unavailable online at the time of that listing. What to check before buying a used PS5 Pro
- Compare final totals. Include tax, shipping, and any mandatory fees for both offers.
- Get a clear condition description. Look for disclosure of repairs, damage, unusual noise, overheating, or other faults, and ask whether the console was tested.
- Confirm what is included. Check for the DualSense controller, power lead, and every other advertised item; ask whether the accessories work. - Read the exact return terms. Check the return window, what qualifies for a refund, and whether you must pay return shipping or meet other conditions.
- Review additional coverage. Check any retailer warranty or protection plan for duration and exclusions; do not treat it as Sony warranty coverage.
- Ask for purchase proof. Request the original receipt and verify whether any Sony warranty eligibility remains.
- Arrange a test or a way back. If possible, test the console in person. Otherwise, make sure the seller will accept a return if it is defective.
What changes—and what does not—between a used and new PS5 Pro?
The console model is the same whether bought used or new. Sony announced that PS5 Pro has 67% more GPU compute units and memory 28% faster than the then-current standard PS5, enabling up to 45% faster gameplay rendering, along with advanced ray tracing and AI-driven PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Sony also said the system includes a 2 TB SSD and a DualSense wireless controller. A used console’s actual package may differ, so verify the listing rather than assuming all original items are present.
