The Homepage community plugin adds that startup behavior and lets you reopen the destination with a command or ribbon button. It does not, by itself, turn Obsidian into a live monitoring dashboard or guarantee that external services will display inside a note.
What the Homepage plugin does
Homepage lets you choose an Obsidian note, canvas, base, or workspace to open at startup. It also provides a command and ribbon button for opening that destination again later. The plugin listing says its default destination is a note named Home, which can be customized: Homepage plugin listing.
For a home lab, the useful distinction is between a launchpad and an integrated dashboard. A note can collect links to the services you use, along with instructions or other vault content. Homepage handles which Obsidian destination opens; it does not establish that a linked service can be embedded, authenticated, or monitored from within Obsidian.

- Create or choose a destination. Make a note for your lab, or use an existing note, canvas, base, or workspace. Add links to services and vault material that are useful to have at hand.
- Install and enable Homepage. In Obsidian, open Settings, go to Community plugins, browse the directory, find Homepage, then install and enable it. Obsidian’s Help home links to its guidance; exact interface labels can change between versions.
- Choose the startup destination. Open Homepage’s plugin settings and select the note or other supported destination you want it to open. The plugin listing documents this capability, but does not guarantee a particular vault configuration or service link will work as an embedded page.
- Set the opening behavior. Homepage can control what happens to tabs that were already open, choose a view mode, and run an Obsidian command when the homepage opens. Review those settings against your preferred startup workflow.
- Try the launch flow. Restart Obsidian to check the startup destination, then use the plugin’s command or ribbon button to reopen it later.
The listing identifies Homepage as version 4.5.0 and states compatibility with Obsidian 1.13.0 or later. These are listing details, not a guarantee of current compatibility; check the live plugin listing and your installed Obsidian version before installing.
When a richer dashboard plugin may fit better
If you want more than a chosen startup destination, two other plugins describe broader dashboard features. Their listings do not establish that every external page or service will render correctly, so check the relevant content and authentication requirements before relying on an embed.

Choose based on whether you need a simple startup destination or a multi-widget interface, which Obsidian version you run, whether you need desktop or mobile support, and whether your content is vault data or an external page. The plugin descriptions establish different feature scopes; they should not be treated as interchangeable.

Homepage is a practical way to make a chosen Obsidian destination the first thing you see, and a note can serve as a central list of lab links. The plugin’s documented capabilities support that workflow. They do not verify any particular person’s setup, identify which home-lab services they use, or show that a service can be displayed live within Obsidian.
