USB-C display glasses work only when the connected device can send them video—typically DisplayPort over USB-C—and supply enough power. A USB-C-shaped port alone does not guarantee either. Check the exact phone, tablet, computer, or handheld model’s documentation and the glasses’ requirements before buying.
How USB-C display glasses work
These glasses act as a tethered external display worn in front of your eyes. A compatible host sends video and audio over DisplayPort through USB-C, commonly called DisplayPort Alt Mode. The glasses receive the signal and, depending on the model, power through the cable.
USB-C is the connector standard, not a promise of video output. USB-C Alternate Modes repurpose connector pins and cable wires for other interfaces; VESA says Alt Mode discovery and enablement use USB Power Delivery. If a USB-C port does not support DisplayPort video, the glasses will receive no image. A blank display on a direct connection may therefore indicate a host limitation rather than faulty glasses. How to check whether your device is compatible
- Find the exact host model and port. Check the device manual or manufacturer’s specifications for DisplayPort video output over USB-C, also called DisplayPort Alt Mode. A DisplayPort logo beside the connector can be a clue, but VESA recommends confirming in the device documentation.
- Check the glasses’ power requirement. Requirements vary by model. For example, XREAL’s One Series instructions specify 5V/1A and say the glasses have no built-in battery; the connected device supplies their power. Do not assume this requirement applies to other glasses. See XREAL’s One Series connection instructions.
- Confirm the connection path and desired features. If the host lacks USB-C video output, check whether the glasses maker supports your device through a particular adapter or dock. Then verify that the features you want work with your host model and software version.
Connection options by source device

Adapter direction matters: USB-C-to-HDMI and HDMI-to-USB-C perform different conversions. An adapter intended to send a USB-C source to an HDMI display may not connect an HDMI source to USB-C glasses.

Limitations that can affect the experience
Video output is not guaranteed by USB-C
If the host’s port lacks DisplayPort Alt Mode, a direct USB-C connection will not produce a picture. No adapter should be assumed to add video output unless it is specifically designed for the source, glasses, and signal direction involved.
Power can affect reliability
Some glasses draw power from the host rather than an internal battery. In its Adapter Ultra guidance, VITURE cautions that smartphone power limits can cause occasional glasses shutdown or screen blackout during high-brightness use, especially with 3D or ultrawide modes. This is a manufacturer-documented caveat, not a universal behavior for every phone or glasses model.

Adapters may omit control or data features
VITURE says its Adapter Ultra supports mirroring and charging but does not provide wired data communication with the glasses; some app-controlled functions are consequently unavailable on certain hosts. Its page also lists limitations for Android and Windows handheld use. Check the adapter documentation for the features you intend to use rather than treating charging passthrough as proof of full compatibility.
Features depend on the device and software
Compatibility can extend beyond whether an image appears. XREAL warns that feature availability may vary by device model and system version. One XREAL product guide, for example, says its stabilization feature requires 120Hz. That is a product-specific requirement, not a general refresh-rate rule for display glasses. Consult the relevant guide for the model and feature you plan to use.

Fit, field of view, resolution, and long-session comfort are model-specific questions. The compatibility requirements described here do not establish a cross-brand verdict on those qualities; assess the exact model’s specifications and reliable testing.
