Choose a UGG Classic boot if you want ankle coverage and a boot silhouette; choose a Tasman if you want a low-profile style that slips on easily. For a precise comparison, this guide uses the women’s Classic Short II (style 1016223) and Tasman II (style 1174470). Other Classic heights and Tasman generations can differ in construction and fit advice.
How the Classic Short II and Tasman II differ
The main practical difference is coverage: UGG describes the Tasman II as a slide-in, low-profile style, while the Classic Short II has an 8-inch shaft. The products also arrange their suede and sheepskin components differently.

| Decision point | Classic Short II (1016223) | Tasman II (1174470) | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silhouette and coverage | 8-inch shaft | Low-profile, slide-in style | Pick the boot for more ankle coverage; pick the Tasman for easier on-and-off. |
| Upper and lining | Twinface sheepskin upper; sheepskin lining and insole | Suede upper; 17 mm sheepskin vamp lining and insole | Both use sheepskin components, but in different configurations. |
| Moisture language | UGG says it is pretreated to repel moisture and calls it water resistant. | The cited product details do not make a waterproof claim. | Water resistant does not mean waterproof; neither listing establishes performance in particular weather. |
| Fit guidance | UGG says Classic styles may feel snug at first and stretch with wear. | The cited Tasman II US details provide a size chart, but not the same specific between-size rule. | Check the exact model and regional listing before choosing a size. |
| Outsole | EVA outsole listed for this model | Sugarcane EVA outsole listed | Material descriptions alone do not establish which has better grip or lasts longer. |
These details come from UGG’s Classic Short II product page and Tasman II product page. Materials and configurations can vary by generation, region, colorway, or production run, so confirm the specific listing you plan to buy.
Which style suits your intended use?
Choose the Classic Short II for boot coverage
The Classic Short II is the clearer fit if you prefer a boot shape and coverage up the ankle. UGG says this model is treated to repel moisture and describes it as water resistant. That is not a waterproof guarantee, and the product description is not an independent test in rain or snow.

Choose the Tasman II for a low-profile slip-on
The Tasman II is the more direct choice if you want a shoe-like, slide-in profile. UGG describes it as suitable for indoor or outdoor use, but that marketing language does not establish how it compares with the Classic Short II for warmth, comfort, traction, or durability.
Check the exact Tasman generation before sizing
“Tasman” can refer to different versions. The original Tasman (style 5955) is not identical to the Tasman II: UGG’s Canada listing for the original says it is available in whole sizes only and advises between-size shoppers to choose based on whether they prefer a snug or relaxed fit. Its materials can also vary by version.

Do not automatically apply that original Tasman advice to the Tasman II or to another country’s listing. For the Classic Short II, UGG says Classic styles may start slightly snug and stretch as the sheepskin adapts; that guidance is not a guarantee that every buyer should size down. Check the size chart and fit notes on the exact product page where you intend to purchase.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the product descriptions cannot settle
UGG’s product listings describe materials, construction, and intended use; they do not provide a head-to-head test of these two styles. There is no supported basis here for saying one is universally warmer, more comfortable, more durable, or better value, or for ranking their traction in particular conditions. Treat those as personal-use questions rather than established product differences.
