Type One Energy announced a $200 million Series B financing on October 6, 2026, to advance its stellarator fusion technology and Project Infinity at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Bull Run site in East Tennessee. The money is financing for development—not revenue from electricity sales—and the proposed commercial plant is not operating.
What the $200 million financing will fund
Type One Energy says the Series B will support its FusionDirect technology development program and work on Project Infinity. Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Clutterbuck Capital co-led the round. The company also named Lowercarbon Capital, Siemens Energy Ventures, and SiteGround Capital among the participants, along with other new investors. It describes the industrial participation as support for a partner-based approach to fusion industrialization. Type One Energy’s announcement quotes CEO Christofer Mowry saying the financing will help advance stellarator technology and Project Infinity design activities with industrial partners.
What Project Infinity includes
Project Infinity has two described components: an engineering prototype called Infinity One and a planned commercial plant called Infinity Two. The proposed site is TVA’s Bull Run location in East Tennessee. TVA says it is working with Type One Energy and Oak Ridge National Laboratory to advance Infinity One. TVA’s project overview describes potential fusion benefits such as reliable and resilient power, low carbon emissions, low radiation levels, no long-term radioactive waste, and potential fuel availability. Those are potential technology benefits, not measured results from an operating Infinity Two plant.
How much power is Infinity Two planned to produce?
The capacity descriptions differ and should be kept attributed to their sources. Type One Energy’s October 2026 announcement gives Infinity Two a planned capacity of 400 MWe. TVA describes the planned fusion pilot plant as 350 megawatts. Neither number is measured output from a completed plant, and the available descriptions do not explain the difference.

What has happened so far—and what has not
Project Infinity has reached contract and regulatory milestones, but those do not establish that the commercial plant has been built, generated net electricity, or supplied customers.
- In July 2025, Type One Energy and TVA announced their first commercial contracts related to Project Infinity. The work included developing welding and fabrication techniques for Infinity One and a potential subsequent power plant. These steps indicate development and licensing activity; they are not evidence of an operating reactor. Type One Energy’s “world’s first commercial fusion plant” language is an ambition attached to a future project, not an independently confirmed status. The cited sources do not establish this project’s commercial performance, cost, or probability of delivery.

What the announcement means for the Tennessee Valley
The proposed plant is intended for TVA’s Bull Run site, and the project is being developed with the utility and Oak Ridge National Laboratory involved in advancing Infinity One. TVA says it serves more than 10 million people across the Tennessee Valley; that is regional context, not a claim about Infinity Two’s output or the project’s share of demand. The financing announcement marks support for development work, while the power plant itself remains planned.
