Its 2.4 GHz transmitter works with PC and PlayStation, Bluetooth 5.2 adds another wireless option, and a 3.5 mm cable supports wired use—including on Xbox. The central tradeoff is practical: sound escapes the ear cups and room noise gets in, so it is a poor fit for shared or noisy spaces.
Is the Turtle Beach Atlas Air worth it?
It is worth considering if you specifically want an open-back headset and wireless convenience for PC or PlayStation. The Atlas Air combines a wireless transmitter, Bluetooth, and wired connectivity, with a detachable flip-to-mute microphone and manufacturer-listed battery capacity of 800 mAh. Its open construction, however, is not a small design detail: people nearby may hear your game, and you will hear more of your surroundings than you would through a closed-back headset.
That makes the buying decision depend first on where you play. In a quiet room where leakage is acceptable, its mix of open-back design and wireless options has a clear use case. In a shared room, on public transport, or anywhere you need isolation, look for a closed-back model instead.

What does the open-back design mean in everyday use?
Open-back ear cups allow air and sound to pass through rather than sealing the ear. In practice, that means sound leakage in both directions: people nearby can hear audio, while conversations and other room sounds remain more audible to you. Open-back construction is therefore a preference with a setting attached, not an unconditional upgrade. If privacy, noise blocking, or keeping sound to yourself matters, the Atlas Air’s defining feature works against your needs. PC Gamer’s 2026 buying guide named it its best open-back wireless gaming headset pick, while also emphasizing that leakage makes it unsuitable when others share the room; that is a dated editorial recommendation, not a guarantee of the best choice at every price or against every later model. Battery life, weight, and microphone specifications
Turtle Beach lists 40 mm drivers, a 20 Hz–40 kHz driver frequency response, an 800 mAh rechargeable lithium-polymer battery, and a weight of 301 g with microphone. It specifies a unidirectional detachable flip-to-mute microphone with a 100 Hz–16 kHz frequency response. Battery claims need similar care. The up-to-50-hour figure was reported as Turtle Beach’s advertised maximum in PC Gamer’s June 14, 2024 review; it is not a guaranteed runtime for every connection, volume level, or use pattern. PC Gamer’s reviewer said they charged the headset twice over three weeks of use, which is an anecdote rather than a controlled battery test. How does it compare with other gaming headsets?
There is no universal winner between the Atlas Air and a wired or closed-back alternative. RTINGS compares it with the Drop + Sennheiser/EPOS PC38X and Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 3; these headsets serve different preferences around enclosure and connectivity. In the cited comparison, RTINGS describes the Atlas Air as suitable for wireless PC and PlayStation gaming and says it offers a better microphone and more companion-app flexibility than the PC38X, while the wired PC38X has its own advantages. Can you replace the Atlas Air ear cushions?
Yes. Turtle Beach sells an Atlas Air Mod Pack containing replacement left and right cushions plus an adjustable headband strap, and says the pack fits Atlas Air only. What is the verdict?
The Atlas Air is a specialized choice rather than a safe all-purpose headset recommendation. Its strongest fit is a player who wants open-back sound, accepts leakage, and uses PC or PlayStation wirelessly—or is happy to connect Xbox by cable. If your room is shared or noisy, the open-back design is likely the decisive reason to choose something else.
