President Donald Trump’s push to replace “Artificial Intelligence” with “Super Intelligence” in federal communications gave the initials “SI” an unexpected second life: they are also Slovenia’s country-code domain. Some buyers responded by registering .si web addresses, but the order does not require businesses, publishers, or the public to rename AI—and the reported figures do not mean everyone is buying one.
What Trump’s “Super Intelligence” order says
On September 29, 2026, Trump signed an executive order titled “Inaugurating The Era Of Super Intelligence.” It directs executive departments and agencies, “to the maximum extent permitted by law,” to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in specified official, non-statutory materials, including correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, and policy documents. The order says it does not require changes to previously issued regulations, presidential actions, contracts, grants, or historical documents. It also uses the existing statutory definition of artificial intelligence for its purposes. Read the order.
The terminology has limits: this is an instruction for the executive branch, not a universal renaming of AI. It does not tell private companies, media organizations, or the public what terms to use. The order also directs the White House science and technology adviser to submit proposed legislative language for a federal definition within 60 days; that is a request for a proposal, not evidence that the scientific meaning of AI has changed.
Trump had previewed the wording at the United Nations General Assembly on September 23, saying, “The use of the word artificial makes intelligence fake, it makes it sound fake and it is not fake. It’s actually amazing.” The executive order made the federal terminology shift formal. On October 4, the Associated Press reported that Trump named Jay Clayton to lead a federal task force called the “Super Intelligence Force.” AP’s report.

Why the policy story sent attention to Slovenia’s .si
“SI” is also the country-code top-level domain for Slovenia. After Trump’s remarks and the order, buyers sought .si web addresses, including short names and registrations intended to protect brands. That overlap is a coincidence of initials: a .si purchase is not proof that a business has adopted “Super Intelligence” or expects the term to replace “AI.”
The available figures capture different populations and time windows, so they should not be treated as interchangeable measures of all .si buying:
| Source and period | Reported activity | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Hostinger, as reported by Euronews, after Trump’s September 23 remarks | 22,800 .si domains registered by 8,000 buyers | Activity reported by Hostinger, not a count of every .si registration worldwide. Euronews report. |
| Hostinger, as reported by Euronews, October 1–2, then Saturday and Sunday | 5,300 registrations per day on October 1 and 2; 2,246 on Saturday and 2,804 on Sunday, versus a pre-order average of about 520 per day | Hostinger’s observed daily activity; the comparison is with its reported pre-order average. Euronews report. |
| Register.si figures, as reported by TechRadar, September and August 2026 | 46,066 .si registrations in September, compared with 3,515 in August | Registry-linked monthly totals, a different measure from Hostinger’s customer activity. TechRadar report. |
Hostinger also told Euronews and TechCrunch that about 3% of the .si registrations it observed explicitly included AI terms. That suggests most of its observed registrations did not visibly name AI, though a domain alone cannot reveal a buyer’s plans. TechCrunch report.

The rush is a news story, not a reason to register a domain speculatively. A .si address may fit a Slovenia-focused organization or a brand whose audience will recognize and trust the ending. For a business serving customers elsewhere, consider whether people will remember the address, whether it could be mistaken for another domain, and whether it supports the brand rather than merely echoing a news cycle.

- Check the exact name: availability is name-specific and can change; do not assume a short or desirable address is still open.
- Compare the full costs: check registration and renewal prices, plus transfer terms, before committing. A low first-year price does not establish the cost of keeping the domain.
- Review provider terms: confirm that the registrar supports the registration and that its renewal and transfer conditions suit your needs.
- Register for a real purpose: a launch, established brand, or deliberate defensive registration is a clearer reason than a temporary spike in attention.
Hostinger’s head of domains described .si as a “more affordable second option” relative to .ai. Hostinger was quoted by TechCrunch as reporting .si at around $12 per year and .ai at $90 with a two-year commitment. These are provider-specific reported prices, not universal or independently verified current rates; check the registrar’s live checkout and renewal terms before deciding. TechCrunch’s report.
