The ELC 2017 presentation on TPM 2.0 and the TPM Software Stack (TSS) looked beyond the security chip itself: it covered software packages, boot measurement, and the work needed to integrate TPM support into embedded Linux images and platforms. Its examples describe the state of development in 2017, not a current hardware compatibility list.

Which ELC 2017 presentation does this title refer to?

The primary slide deck is titled TCG TPM2 Software Stack & Embedded Linux and names Philip Tricca. The tpm2-software community index lists his ELC 2017 talk as Securing Embedded Linux Systems with TPM 2.0. These are title variants associated with the presentation, not proof that every similarly titled TPM talk from 2017 was the same session. The community index provides the alternate listing.

What did the talk cover?

From TPM packages to a boot chain

The slides approach TPM 2.0 from an embedded-development perspective. They describe TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0 packages, reference live images and initrds, work on GRUB 2 patches for measured launch, and integration with board and platform support. This frames TPM enablement as a system task: software must be built and connected to the boot process and target platform, rather than merely paired with a chip. The presentation deck is the primary source for these examples.

Threat model and TPM capabilities

A secondary catalog describes the broader outline as including threat modeling and TPM protections, measured boot, TPM2 software-stack design, random-number generation, cryptographic operations, sealed storage, and local attestation. Those topics place TPM features in the context of the system’s security goals; the catalog is a summary rather than the primary slide evidence for each implementation detail. The ELC 2017 presentation catalog lists the talk.

What embedded-platform examples did the slides name?

The deck describes a MinnowBoard Max board-support-package effort to add TPM 2.0 support as a machine feature, as well as an ARM reference platform using an Infineon SPI TPM. It also points to coreboot TPM 2.0 support as a possible starting point. These are presentation-era examples; the slides do not establish that the hardware remains available, that current revisions are compatible, or that the same software path is maintained today.

What implementation caveat did the presenter note?

The slide content identifies remaining TSS work for big-endian systems at the time of the presentation. That is a historical status statement, not evidence about the current state of TSS. For present-day builds, the upstream tpm2-tss installation documentation describes building a reduced set of libraries for embedded targets. That documentation shows a build option, not certification for any particular board-and-TPM combination.
