1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPakistan’s clearest technology milestone in 2024 was a record-sized full-year ICT export figure: the government reported US$3.223 billion in ICT services export remittances for fiscal year 2023–24. The year also brought a large telecom market, a high-profile technology showcase abroad and two distinct satellite milestones. But internet disruptions and startup funding pressure showed the distance between digital ambition and dependable access.
ICT exports reached US$3.223 billion in FY 2023–24
The Press Information Department reported ICT services export remittances of US$3.223 billion for FY 2023–24, covering July 2023 through June 2024. That was up from US$2.596 billion in FY 2022–23, according to the government release.
June’s figure provides a separate monthly view: ICT export remittances were US$298 million in June 2024, 32.44% higher than in June 2023. That year-over-year monthly increase should not be confused with the annual change across the two fiscal years.
A different period appears in the Pakistan Economic Survey 2023–24. As reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan, ICT exports were US$2.283 billion during July 2023 to March 2024, alongside estimated telecom revenue of Rs 735 billion. Those are nine-month figures, not a competing full-year total or a calendar-year result. The same report put combined mobile and fixed telecom subscriptions at 194 million and teledensity at 80.7% as of March 2024. APP’s account of the Economic Survey provides the period and context.

Pakistan’s telecom market was large, but access remained a concern
The 194 million mobile and fixed subscriptions reported through March indicate the scale of Pakistan’s telecom market. They do not, by themselves, show how many unique people were connected: subscription totals can include multiple connections held by one person. The 80.7% teledensity figure is also a sector measure, not a guarantee of uniform coverage, speed or reliable service for every user.
That distinction mattered in 2024. The Pakistan Digital Transformation Report 2024 describes internet shutdowns and slowdowns, cable faults, speed concerns and disputes over causes and policy. Its summary relays a Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) estimate that each hour of internet outage or disruption cost the IT industry more than US$1 million. This is an attributed industry estimate, not an independently measured national accounting total.

The pavilion is evidence of organized international visibility, not proof of investment or business outcomes. The government release does not establish the value of contracts, partnerships or funding that resulted. TechJuice also reported that Pakistan received a “Tech Destination of the Year” award at GITEX Global, but the available event-level confirmation is not established here; treat that as a media-reported claim rather than a verified award result. Two May satellite milestones served different purposes
iCube-Qamar reached lunar orbit
Pakistan’s iCube-Qamar travelled aboard China’s Chang’e 6 mission and entered lunar orbit in May 2024. The Pakistan Digital Transformation Report says the project received initial orbital images. This was a lunar science milestone, distinct from domestic telecom infrastructure.

PAKSAT MM1 was launched for communications
Later in May, Pakistan launched the PAKSAT MM1 communications satellite. The report presents it as a satellite intended to support communications and connectivity. The two events therefore marked different kinds of progress: a Pakistani payload operating in lunar orbit and a communications satellite launched for service-related purposes. The report documents the launch and intended role; it does not establish specific coverage or service outcomes achieved during 2024.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Startup and fintech activity came amid funding pressure
The year included signs of company-level activity, including financing, acquisition and expansion. The Pakistan Digital Transformation Report’s summary cites fintech funding and examples such as SadaPay’s acquisition by Papara, PostEx funding and COLABS expansion funding. Those examples show that transactions and company developments occurred; they do not establish that startup investment broadly recovered or that the ecosystem’s funding constraints had eased.
Because the report is a secondary synthesis of other publications, its examples are best read as a snapshot rather than a complete market tally. It does not, on its own, support treating individual deals as representative of all Pakistani startups.
What these moments say about Pakistan tech in 2024
Pakistan’s 2024 technology story combined measurable export growth and international visibility with satellite achievements and a sizable telecom sector. The counterpoint was operational: internet reliability remained contested, and the report described pressure on startup funding. The most defensible reading is a year of visible progress in exports, representation and space activity—not proof that connectivity was consistently reliable or that the wider technology ecosystem had resolved its constraints.
