Skydance completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, creating a combined company called Skydance—but the available announcements do not establish that Driscoll now runs Warner Bros. Games. The combined portfolio spans franchises from Batman to SpongeBob SquarePants; that breadth does not mean Driscoll personally oversees every game based on them.
Who is Tony Driscoll, and what is his role?
Paramount named Driscoll President of Paramount Games Studio on June 5, 2026, and described him as EVP of Corporate Strategy and Development. The announcement presented the studio as a unified home for Paramount and Skydance gaming operations. It named Skydance Games as a publishing label and Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media as development teams. Paramount’s announcement is dated before the Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition closed.
Driscoll characterized the launch as a strategic change: “This division launch marks a meaningful evolution in how we think about games – not as an extension of our business, but as a core pillar of our content strategy alongside film, television, and streaming.” The statement describes Paramount’s approach to games; it does not define the post-acquisition reporting structure for Warner Bros. Does Driscoll now run Warner Bros. Games?
That has not been confirmed in the cited official materials. Paramount’s June announcement sets out the remit and structure of Paramount Games Studio, while Skydance’s October closing announcement confirms the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. Neither announcement says Warner Bros. Games has been placed under Driscoll’s direct leadership or explains how its teams will report after the deal.

It is therefore accurate to say Driscoll leads Paramount Games Studio within the newly combined Skydance company. Saying he runs all of Skydance’s game operations, including Warner Bros. Games, would go beyond what those announcements establish.
What does “from Batman to SpongeBob” mean?
It describes the range of franchises in the combined company’s portfolio, not a list of properties personally assigned to Driscoll. The Associated Press identified Batman among DC properties and SpongeBob SquarePants among children’s and animation franchises under the Skydance umbrella. Skydance’s closing release also names SpongeBob. These sources support the portfolio connection, but do not establish who will lead development of any particular franchise game.
The merger brings together businesses with recognizable entertainment properties across different audiences. Whether that produces changes to specific games, studios, or release plans is a separate question; the cited closing materials do not announce such decisions.
What happened in the $110.9 billion Warner Bros. Discovery deal?
Skydance announced that the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery was complete on October 6, 2026, and that the combined company would be named Skydance. The headline-scale valuation needs context: the Associated Press described the takeover as $81 billion and said the total reached nearly $111 billion including debt. That debt-inclusive figure is not the cash paid directly to shareholders.

Skydance’s closing release states that Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders received $31.01666668 in cash per share. The shareholder consideration and the debt-inclusive transaction valuation measure different things, so they should not be treated as interchangeable figures. Skydance’s closing announcement provides the per-share amount; the Associated Press report gives the broader deal framing.

For games, the key unresolved issue is organizational: the public announcements cited here do not explain whether or how Warner Bros. Games will be integrated into Paramount Games Studio. They also provide no games sales, audience, or development-performance figures for Driscoll’s organization.

For streaming, Skydance says Paramount+ and HBO Max are intended to become one service “over time,” but its closing release gives no date or product details. The Associated Press reported that there was no immediate change to the services at closing. That means the announced future plan should not be mistaken for an already-completed merger of the apps, catalogs, or subscriptions. Skydance’s release describes the intention; AP’s October 7 coverage reports the immediate consumer context.
