Salesforce time tracking can mean a stopwatch, manual time entry, or a weekly timesheet that assigns hours to Salesforce records. Choose an app by the workflow you need: simple capture and reporting, project and billing operations, or timesheets bundled with PTO and attendance. Then verify its Salesforce requirements and test the workflow in a sandbox before installing it in production.
What Salesforce time tracking needs to do
Start by defining what “time tracking” means for your team. A basic workflow records time and associates it with work; a fuller one may also collect timesheets, route approvals, report on hours, or connect time to project delivery and billing.
Before comparing apps, list the records that should receive time, whether hours are billable, how often staff submit entries, and who approves them. Also decide whether you need project planning, invoicing, PTO, attendance, or mobile access. Marketplace descriptions use similar feature terms, but do not establish that the features behave identically across products.

Match the workflow to the team
Flexible entry and record allocation
If employees need to start and stop a timer, enter time against a calendar, or submit batches of hours, compare entry methods and how each app associates time with Salesforce records. C323’s listing describes all three entry approaches, along with reporting and allocations. Confirm in a trial that the relevant records and reports suit your org.

Weekly timesheets, PTO, and attendance
A weekly timesheet can fit teams that submit and approve hours on a schedule rather than relying mainly on live timers. Simple Timesheet’s listing also describes leave requests, attendance, dashboards, reminders, and PDF export. Questions to answer before choosing
- Entry: Do employees need a stopwatch, calendar-based entry, batch entry, or weekly submissions?
- Salesforce records: Which objects or records must accept time, and can the app associate entries with them as required?
- Approvals: What submission cadence and routing rules are required?
- Time categories: Can the workflow distinguish billable from non-billable time if your reporting or billing requires it?
- Operations: Are project planning, resource allocation, invoicing, or expenses in scope, or would a focused tracker be simpler?
- People workflows: Do PTO, leave, attendance, reminders, or mobile support matter to your team?
- Cost: What is the current total cost for your users and required features, including any costs or limits not reflected in a headline listing price?
- Compatibility: Does the listing support your Salesforce product, edition, and features?
Validate an app before production
Salesforce’s AppExchange FAQ advises: “Before installing an AppExchange app into your production instance of Salesforce, it’s important that you verify the requirements and test the functionality of the app listing.” Salesforce Trailhead likewise identifies compatibility with a specific Salesforce product, edition, or feature as a technical consideration. Review the app’s current requirements, then test the complete workflow in a sandbox.
- Check compatibility: Compare the listing’s requirements with your Salesforce product, edition, and enabled features.
- Test realistic entries: Try the entry method employees will use and associate sample hours with the intended Salesforce records.
- Exercise the approval and reporting path: Submit a timesheet, route it for approval, and inspect the resulting reports or exports.
- Verify adjacent workflows: If you need projects, billing, PTO, expenses, or attendance, test those specific steps rather than relying on feature names in the listing.
- Confirm commercial terms: Recheck current price, included features, and limits with the listing and vendor before rollout.
Marketplace descriptions establish what vendors say their products offer; they do not by themselves establish independent security audit results, implementation effort, integration quality, usability, or customer outcomes. Ask the vendor about requirements and gaps that matter to your org, and use the sandbox to decide whether the workflow fits.
