Make can connect a time-tracking service to other apps in a scenario, letting you automate supported tasks such as creating or finding time entries. The available workflows depend on the tracker: Make’s documentation lists time-entry and project/task modules for TrackingTime, and time-entry, project, and start/stop timer modules for Timing. Choose the integration by the action you need, then confirm its current credentials and module details in the official documentation.

How does time tracking work in Make?

Make scenarios use app connections to exchange information with third-party services. A scenario can pass data between a time tracker and another connected app, but the connection process and available actions vary by service. Make’s guide to connections explains that setup may require service-specific credentials.

For example, Make’s integration listings describe use cases such as syncing tracked data, exporting timesheets, turning calendar events into time entries, and sending workflow notifications. These are examples, not guarantees: whether a particular scenario works depends on the fields, permissions, and apps available to your accounts. See Make’s listings for TrackingTime and Timing.

Which time tracker modules are available?

The documented module sets are different. Match the integration to the operation you want rather than assuming every tracker offers the same controls.

Choose TrackingTime for record-oriented workflows

TrackingTime’s listed modules include creating and searching time entries and working with customers, projects, and tasks. That set may suit a scenario that needs to create or look up records, but check the current module list for the exact operation you require.

Choose Timing when timer controls matter

Timing’s documented modules include starting and stopping a timer, as well as working with time entries and projects. If you need Make to control a running timer, verify the module’s current inputs and requirements in Timing’s documentation before designing the scenario.

How do you connect a time tracker to Make?

  1. Choose the workflow and connected apps. Decide which app supplies the trigger or data and which app should receive or act on it. Identify whether you want to create or search for an entry, work with project or task records, or control a timer.
  2. Check the tracker’s current Make documentation. Review the service’s Apps Documentation for supported modules and connection requirements. For TrackingTime, the documentation describes an app password; for Timing, it describes an API key. Follow the current vendor instructions rather than relying on an old interface path.
  3. Create the connection in Make. In the scenario editor, add the tracker module you need and use its connection prompt to authorize or enter the required credentials. Make notes that connection requirements differ by service and may include items such as API keys or client details.
  4. Map the fields between modules. Match the available project, task, date, duration, and description fields to the receiving module. Field names and required values depend on the apps and modules in your scenario.
  5. Test with a small, reversible example. Run a limited test and confirm that the resulting entry or timer action is correct before relying on the scenario operationally.
  6. Plan for exceptions before enabling routine use. Decide how your workflow should handle failed runs, repeated triggers, edits, and deleted entries. The documented integrations do not establish universal behavior for these cases, so verify the outcome for your specific scenario.

Can Make automatically create time entries?

Yes, the documented TrackingTime and Timing modules include actions related to time entries. A scenario can use a trigger or data from another connected app and pass mapped values to an entry-creation action when the relevant modules and permissions are available. Make’s integration listings mention calendar events becoming time entries as an example, but the listing alone does not specify a universal field mapping or guarantee a working setup for every account.

Before enabling automatic creation, decide what should happen when the source event is changed, retried, or sent more than once. The reviewed module documentation does not define a universal duplicate or edit policy; verify those cases with a small test in your own scenario.

Can you start or stop a timer with Make?

Timing’s Make documentation lists start- and stop-timer modules. The TrackingTime module list described in its documentation centers on entries and related customer, project, and task records; it does not establish the same start/stop controls. Check the selected service’s current documentation for required inputs and account setup before building a timer workflow.

What should you verify before relying on a scenario?

  • Module availability: Confirm that the exact action or search you need still appears in the tracker’s Make documentation.
  • Credentials and permissions: Follow the current service-specific setup steps and confirm the connected account can access the intended projects and records.
  • Field mapping: Check that the date, duration, description, project, and task values are present and mapped as intended.
  • Failure and retry behavior: Test what happens when an app rejects data or a scenario runs again; do not assume retries or repeated triggers are handled identically by every integration.
  • Changes after setup: Recheck the service documentation if its interface, credential method, or Make modules change. Make’s Apps Documentation cautions that its content may contain errors and points readers to vendor documentation for confirmation.
