Update TikTok and your device, restart the app and device, check your connection, then clear TikTok’s in-app cache if needed; avoid deleting the app if you have drafts you want to keep.
1. Update TikTok and your device
TikTok recommends using the latest version of its app and your device’s operating system before continuing with troubleshooting. Install any available TikTok update from your device’s app store, then check for an operating-system update in the phone’s system settings. Restart the device after installing updates and test TikTok again.
TikTok does not publish a specific minimum app version on its troubleshooting page, so there is no official version number you need to enter or compare against.
2. Restart TikTok and your device
Quit TikTok, open it again, and test the feed. If it still freezes, restart the phone or tablet. Restarting the app and device are among TikTok’s first troubleshooting steps.

On an iPhone, Apple recommends closing an app when it is unresponsive—not routinely force-closing every app. The procedure depends on the model:
- iPhone X or later: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause. Find TikTok, then swipe up on its preview.
- iPhone SE, iPhone 8 or earlier, and iPod touch: Double-click the Home button, find TikTok, then swipe up on its preview.
Reopen TikTok after closing it. If the phone itself is frozen, use the restart procedure for your specific device model rather than repeatedly tapping the app.
3. Check the internet connection
TikTok can look frozen when it is waiting for videos, comments, or an upload to finish. Test the connection directly:
- Turn off Wi-Fi and try TikTok on mobile data.
- If you are already using mobile data, connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network.
- Try loading another website or streaming service on the same connection.
- If every service is slow, restart the router or move closer to the access point.
If TikTok works on one connection but not the other, the app is probably not the underlying problem. Leave TikTok open long enough to see whether the issue is limited to loading rather than a complete crash.

4. Clear TikTok’s cache from inside the app
Use TikTok’s current cache path. The setting is called Free up space; older instructions that mention Cache and cellular data may not match the current interface.
- Open TikTok and tap Profile.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button.
- Open Settings and privacy.
- Tap Free up space.
- Tap Clear next to Cache.
Then return to the feed and test the app. Clearing the cache is different from deleting TikTok or clearing app data through the phone’s system settings. Do not delete the app as a first step if you have saved drafts you cannot afford to lose.
5. Check whether the problem is account-specific
If TikTok opens normally but a particular feature is blocked or fails—such as posting, commenting, direct messaging, logging in, or editing your profile—check your account status.

- TikTok Studio: Profile → Menu ☰ → TikTok Studio → under More tools, tap Account check.
- Safety Center: Profile → Menu ☰ → Settings and privacy → Support → Safety Center → Account check.
Account check is for restrictions affecting login, posting, commenting, profile editing, or direct messages. It does not diagnose a phone that is generally slow or an app that is frozen on launch.
6. Report the freeze to TikTok
Use TikTok’s in-app support route after trying the basic fixes:
- Go to Profile.
- Tap Menu ☰.
- Tap Settings and privacy.
- Open Report a problem.
- Select the topic that best matches the freeze and follow the prompts.
If the suggested solution does not fix it, continue through the report:
- Under Is your problem resolved?, tap No.
- Tap Need more help? and submit the details.
Describe exactly when TikTok freezes—for example, whether the feed stops responding, the app freezes while uploading, or it closes immediately after launch. Include your phone model, operating-system version, TikTok version if visible, connection type, and the fixes you already tried. Specific reproduction steps are more useful than simply reporting that the app is glitching.

What not to waste time looking for
There is no verified TikTok terminal command, repair code, or command-line syntax that fixes a frozen mobile app. TikTok’s official troubleshooting material does not publish one. Be cautious with websites that promise a secret code or ask you to install an unrelated “TikTok repair” utility.

FAQ
Why does TikTok keep freezing while videos load?
The connection may be unstable rather than the app being fully frozen. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, then test another website. If TikTok works on only one connection, investigate that network.
Will clearing TikTok’s cache delete my drafts?
TikTok’s in-app cache option is separate from deleting the app or clearing its stored data through device settings. However, avoid deleting TikTok as a first step if you have important drafts, because local drafts can be affected by app removal.
Where is TikTok’s cache setting now?
Open Profile → Menu ☰ → Settings and privacy → Free up space, then tap Clear next to Cache. The current label is Free up space, not Cache and cellular data.

Should I force-close TikTok every time I finish using it?
No. On iPhone, Apple recommends closing an app when it is unresponsive. Close TikTok when it has actually hung, then reopen it; routine force-closing is not required.
Can Account check tell me why TikTok freezes?
