For the best starting point on PC, first confirm you are running The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, install a current graphics driver, and set the game to your display’s intended resolution. Establish a baseline before enabling upscaling, frame generation, ray tracing, or path tracing; then add those features one at a time and compare performance and image quality on your own system. CD PROJEKT RED’s expected frame rates vary by scene, hardware, resolution, and settings, so there is no single setting combination that guarantees a particular result.
What changed in the Remastered PC version?
Released September 29, 2026, Remastered is a free upgrade for eligible owners on the platforms listed by CD PROJEKT RED. The upgrade includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Its PC feature list adds native DirectX 12 rendering with multithreading and path tracing, alongside updated visuals, rendering, and gameplay features.
That makes older performance advice for the 2022 Next-Gen Update an imperfect guide to this release. NVIDIA describes the earlier update as a hybrid DirectX 11/DirectX 12 renderer with selected ray-traced effects; it describes Remastered as DirectX 12-only and path tracing as a more integrated lighting and rendering approach. That is NVIDIA’s explanation of the technologies, not an independent assessment of the visual difference.
Can your PC run Remastered?
CD PROJEKT RED now lists an SSD as required. The support page says it helps with faster loading, smoother asset streaming, and overall performance, but the readable requirements information does not establish a capacity or drive interface. Check the current official requirements table for the appropriate hardware tier rather than relying on an older edition’s specifications.

The detailed hardware tiers and target frame rates are not reproduced here because the official table is presented as an image and its values are not available in the accompanying readable text. Do not treat an absent figure as proof that a component will or will not run the game.
CD PROJEKT RED says it no longer officially supports or tests Windows 10. The company also clarifies that this does not mean the game will necessarily stop running on Windows 10. Its support applies to components that continue to receive official manufacturer updates.

How to get the best experience on PC
- Confirm the edition and version. Check the game’s title and version in the launcher or store you use to make sure you are running Remastered, not an earlier edition or rollback. Available rollback versions depend on the platform; CD PROJEKT RED mentions version 4.04 among the earlier options after Remastered’s release.
- Check the official requirements for your hardware tier. Use CD PROJEKT RED’s current support page. Because its detailed table values are not available in readable text here, do not substitute remembered specifications or numbers repeated elsewhere.
- Update your graphics driver. NVIDIA recommends its latest Game Ready Driver for the upgrade. CD PROJEKT RED’s feature information links to driver sources for NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel; choose the driver for the GPU in your PC.
- Set your display resolution and make a baseline. Start at the resolution you intend to play at. If you want to understand native performance, turn off upscaling and frame generation for this comparison. Note how the game looks and feels before changing other demanding graphics options.
- Try the upscaler supported by your GPU. Compare its image quality and frame pacing with the baseline, then assess input feel separately if you enable frame generation. Change one feature at a time so it is clear which change helped or hurt.
- Add ray tracing or path tracing last. These are substantial rendering choices, so test them after you have settled on resolution and upscaling. If performance is unsatisfactory, turn the demanding option off or reduce the rendering load before making several changes at once.
- Consider streaming if local hardware is not sufficient. NVIDIA identifies GeForce NOW as an option for players without a capable local GeForce RTX system. Check whether the game is currently accessible through the service in your region and on your chosen membership tier; streaming quality also depends on service and network conditions.
What settings should you use?
Choose settings according to the result you want rather than copying a preset intended for a different GPU, resolution, or balance of image quality and frame rate.
- For a reliable starting point: use your intended output resolution, begin without upscaling or frame generation, and add features individually.
- For more performance: compare a supported upscaling mode before reaching for path tracing. If the result still falls short, reduce rendering load or use a less demanding lighting mode.
- For image fidelity: test ray tracing and then path tracing only after establishing a resolution and upscaling combination that is otherwise playable.
- For responsiveness: judge input feel as well as the displayed frame rate when frame generation is enabled. A generated frame contributes to displayed smoothness but should not be reported as a natively rendered frame.
Which upscaling option should you use?
Use the option supported by your GPU and compare it at the resolution you actually play. Remastered’s announced feature support differs by vendor and GPU generation:

CD PROJEKT RED’s expected-FPS methodology uses DLSS, FSR, or XeSS set to Auto for its RT Minimum, RT Recommended, and Path Tracing configurations. Its other configurations use native resolution with upscaling off. That distinction matters: a result measured with automatic upscaling is not a native-rendering result, and it may not match a configuration without the same features.
Should you turn on ray tracing or path tracing?
Start with conventional rendering if your priority is a straightforward performance baseline. Ray tracing adds selected effects; path tracing is the more comprehensive lighting approach described for Remastered. The broader lighting workload makes path tracing the option to test after, not before, you have chosen your resolution and upscaling mode.

CD PROJEKT RED’s Path Tracing performance configuration uses both upscaling and frame generation. Its target therefore should not be compared directly with native rendering or with a setup that has frame generation disabled. Results also vary with scene, system configuration, resolution, and graphics settings.

NVIDIA’s 2026 vendor figures include up to 385 FPS at 4K on an RTX 5090 and up to 245 FPS at 4K on an RTX 5080, using its described Ultra+ path-tracing setup. The RTX 5090 example includes DLSS Ray Reconstruction and 6X Multi Frame Generation. NVIDIA also reports up to 420 FPS at 1440p on an RTX 5090 with its described technologies, including Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. These are NVIDIA-reported figures, not independent benchmark results, and generated frames mean they should not be read as native-rendered FPS.
No broad, reproducible independent benchmark set across CPUs and GPUs is established here. Treat vendor claims and publisher targets as references to their stated test setups, not as substitutes for testing the settings you plan to use.
