What the Witcher 3 Remastered NPC glitch looks like
GamesRadar reported player posts and screenshots showing NPCs whose visible eyes and teeth render without the rest of the face or body. The examples involve multiple characters, but they are player reports rather than a measured account of how often the glitch occurs or which systems trigger it. GamesRadar’s October 6, 2026 report describes the issue as characters not fully loading.
Why players are comparing it to Assassin’s Creed Unity
The comparison is about appearance: Unity became known for launch-era images of NPCs with faces that failed to load, leaving features such as eyes and hair visible. GamesRadar uses that history to explain the resemblance. It does not establish that the two games have the same rendering bug, engine problem, or root cause. “Ghost of Assassin’s Creed Unity” is a visual joke, not an official name for a Witcher feature or confirmed technical diagnosis.
Is there a fix for the missing NPC faces?
Leaving and revisiting the area
One player reportedly said a character’s body returned after they left the location and came back. That is a single anecdote, not a tested procedure or dependable fix. If you encounter the glitch, leaving the area and returning is a low-effort thing to try, but the report does not show that it works consistently.

Check for game updates
CD PROJEKT RED’s October 1, 2026 notes for patch 5.00b describe changes including Xbox Play Anywhere PC DLSS availability and lighting adjustments. The October 1 hotfix 5.00c notes cover other issues, including saving and loading, audio, Velen visuals, HairWorks-related performance and visual problems, telemetry, GOG achievements, and the Classic version launcher. Neither set of notes mentions the missing-face NPC reports. See the official 5.00b notes and 5.00c notes. Their silence does not prove that no later update addressed the symptom.
Reverting to an earlier version
CD PROJEKT RED’s support FAQ says reverting to an earlier game version may be possible depending on platform. It does not recommend doing so for this visual glitch, so treat reversion as a general edition option rather than an established remedy.

What is known—and what is not
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launched on September 29, 2026. CD PROJEKT RED described it as a free upgrade for eligible existing owners on several platforms and listed Battle.net and Microsoft Store purchase availability in its launch announcement. Those release details provide context, but buying the game is not a solution to the glitch.
The available reports do not establish the affected platforms, incidence rate, repeatable steps, underlying cause, or whether the issue persists after later updates. The company’s October 1 patch notes address other launch problems, but do not name this NPC symptom. That does not establish that the company has never received a report or that no later change exists.

The same support FAQ says existing saves are compatible with Remastered, while skills are reset because the skill system was overhauled. Those are general edition details, not steps for repairing a character model.
