The quest has had several different progression issues, so there is no single fix for every case. On PC, CD PROJEKT RED recommends verifying game files and then loading a save from before the problem; if you are blocked in the Oxenfurt sewers, make sure the game is updated to include Patch 4.04.
Start with the objective and location
Open the journal and note the active Get Junior objective, your current location, and what you completed immediately before progress stopped. Also note your platform, game edition and version, and whether the issue began after reloading or updating. These details help distinguish an objective that has not advanced from a character or interaction that is missing.
Do not assume that reports such as “Search Whoreson Junior’s residence” describe a confirmed, widespread defect. Players can reach different blockers, and the published fixes cover specific cases rather than every possible quest state.
Check whether another quest must be completed first
CD PROJEKT RED’s general quest-troubleshooting guidance says that a related quest may activate and need to be completed before progress resumes. Review your journal for newly active or unfinished related quests, complete the relevant one, then return to Get Junior and check whether its objective updates. If you are blocked in the Oxenfurt sewers
Update the game before trying other workarounds. In its Patch 4.04 announcement, CD PROJEKT RED stated: “Get Junior – Removed an unnecessary body of water from Oxenfurt sewers.” The patch was announced for all platforms, including Nintendo Switch. This addresses a particular sewer obstacle; it does not establish a fix for every possible sewer blocker or prove that your specific save is affected. Read the Patch 4.04 announcement.
On PC, verify game files and try an earlier save
The official support guidance is for PC. Preserve your current save before testing an older one, so you can return to the present state if needed.

- Verify the game files. Use the file-integrity or game-cache verification option in the launcher where you own the game. The exact menu labels differ by launcher; follow that launcher’s instructions to check and repair the installation.
- Load a save from before the issue began. Choose a save made before the objective stopped updating, then repeat the relevant progression and check the journal.
- If the issue remains, contact CD PROJEKT RED support. Provide the quest name, a save file, your platform and game version, and whether you used mods, console commands, or trainers.
For PC, the support article lists the save folder as %userprofile%DocumentsThe Witcher 3gamesaves. The cited instructions do not provide equivalent file-verification steps for PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch; console players should use support guidance for their platform rather than PC cache instructions.
What older patch notes can—and cannot—tell you
Historical patch announcements record several distinct Get Junior progression fixes. These include occasions when players could not complete the quest and a case where Vernon Roche remained at camp instead of going to the Oxenfurt Bridge. The Patch 1.10 changelog also records a fix for an arena torch that could not be interacted with to unlock the secret stash, and for Cleaver’s thugs appearing on the casino’s second floor despite not being encountered outside.

These notes document historical fixes, not confirmed defects in current versions. If your objective appears to match one of those cases, check your platform and game version first; the available notes do not establish whether every old issue can still occur in current builds. - What you have already completed and what action fails to trigger progress.
- Your platform, game edition, and version.
- Whether the problem followed a reload or update.
- A save file and whether you used mods, console commands, or trainers.
