On August 17, 2021, GitHub announced filtering changes and draft-issue conversion for the GitHub Issues beta, alongside smaller interface and bug-fix updates. The changelog describes the beta as it stood then; it does not establish which details remain available today.
What changed in GitHub Issues filtering?
The beta update introduced three filter options, each serving a different purpose:

GitHub said the filter bar offered type-ahead suggestions for these options. They were also usable in the command palette: press cmd+k on macOS or ctrl+k on Windows or Linux.

- Open the draft item’s menu and choose the conversion action.
- Edit one of its assignee, labels, milestone, or repository fields.
The August 2021 announcement does not specify additional eligibility rules or describe how this behavior may have changed since.
What other fixes and interface changes were included?
- Filtering could include hidden fields, and filtering was fixed for fields containing emojis.
- Switching views reset the scroll position.
- In a cell, pressing Enter kept focus in the same field and moved to the row below.
- In table layout, creating an item with the Tab key placed focus in the second column.
- Command-palette filtering searched across all fields.
- Views affected by deleting a field used for sorting or grouping were fixed.
- Dragging an item into an empty board column was improved.
- Draft issues were included by the
is:issuefilter. - GitHub updated dark-mode colors.
What was the scope of the announcement?
GitHub presented these changes as improvements to its Issues beta, developed with beta users. The announcement was published on August 17, 2021, and documents what GitHub said changed at that time—not a current feature-status audit. It provided no performance statistics or quantified results.
