How the launch trailer differs from the release-date teaser
These are two separate promotional videos, not alternate names for one trailer. The Steam community post links the September 29 launch video, while SteamDB’s indexed trailer metadata labels a separate “Release date teaser” and dates it September 9, 2026. The teaser’s purpose was to announce the release date; the later video accompanied the launch. The available descriptions do not establish a scene-by-scene comparison.

What the trailer is promoting
The Merlies is a single-player 2D exploration adventure. A storm scatters a community of small birds; players explore and platform through a colorful natural world, reunite the flock, use individual birds’ abilities to open routes, and collect discarded human materials to build or decorate a village. Its promotional framing emphasizes exploration and platforming rather than combat.

The Steam community post describes it as “a metroidvania experience where combat is replaced with poetic exploration and clumsy platforming.” That is the game’s promotional wording, not an independent assessment of its mechanics or quality.
Platforms and Switch edition
The game launched on Steam and Nintendo Switch on September 29, 2026. Nintendo’s US listing identifies the Switch version as a digital game and lists a 2.3 GB file size. The official listings cited here establish digital editions; they do not establish a boxed physical release.
