Humane ended the consumer service at noon Pacific time on February 28, 2025. The device that had been presented as an AI wearable no longer provides its former AI interactions or communications features.
The title’s first-person claim is a personal assessment, not something launch coverage can verify for an individual writer. What the available reporting does establish is the contrast behind it: natural-language interaction could work in a demonstration, but the product’s usefulness depended on a cloud service that did not last.
What the Ai Pin was supposed to do
Humane designed the Ai Pin as a screenless, voice-first wearable rather than another phone with a display. Launch-era coverage described voice and visual inputs, along with a laser display that could project information onto the wearer’s hand. The pitch was to make quick interactions feel more direct and less tied to looking at a phone screen. TIME’s 2023 launch coverage reported a launch price of $699 plus a $24 monthly subscription; those are historical launch figures, not a current offer.
A demonstration could make the premise seem more convincing than a static product description. TIME reported that natural-language interaction could work well in a demo, while also noting bugs and the possibility of incorrect output. That account illustrates both the appeal and the uncertainty of the experience; it does not establish sustained reliability or typical results for owners.

What changed when Humane shut down the service
Humane’s consumer FAQ said the Ai Pin would stop connecting to its servers at noon Pacific time on February 28, 2025. The company also retired Center, its service for managing the Pin, and said customer data on Humane’s servers—including personally identifiable information—would be permanently deleted at that time. The FAQ advised customers to download their data before shutdown. This describes the company’s announced policy; it does not establish what every customer downloaded or whether other copies existed elsewhere. Humane’s consumer FAQ and its shutdown update give the service-end details.
The practical difference is between a wearable that could call on Humane’s cloud and a device left with only limited local functions:

These post-shutdown limitations come from Humane’s FAQ. The evidence here does not establish whether an independent post-shutdown project has restored core functions, so it would be too broad to claim that every possible modification is impossible. Humane did state that changing cellular providers would not make the Pin work as a cellular device.
Refunds and the canceled Charge Case replacement
Humane’s device-refund terms were narrow and have expired. The FAQ limited refunds to customers whose devices shipped on or after November 15, 2024 and were within 90 days of shipment; requests had to be submitted by February 27, 2025. Those conditions do not describe an available refund route today.

Humane also canceled its planned replacement Charge Case. Customers who had chosen to wait for a replacement were to receive a refund of the portion of their purchase price allocated to it after February 28, 2025. The refund and Charge Case terms were stated in Humane’s consumer FAQ.

The Pin’s screenless design was meant to move useful interactions away from a phone screen, but its cloud dependence made the experience contingent on a company-operated service. When Humane’s servers went offline, the features that made the Pin an AI and communications device went with them; the surviving battery display is not a substitute for that original role.

The company’s wind-down also marked the end of the consumer product rather than a transition to a supported device. MacRumors reported the discontinuation, while TechCrunch reported HP’s $116 million purchase of Humane’s assets. That transaction is business context, not evidence of Ai Pin sales, reliability, or customer outcomes.
