The Division’s next spin-off should take the series beyond the United States. New York and Washington, D.C. have already given the franchise two distinct American settings; a city abroad could change its streets, landmarks, and social context while preserving the series’ focus on a detailed urban crisis. London, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, and Mexico City are promising possibilities—not announced or confirmed Ubisoft plans.
Why should The Division leave America?
The franchise has established its urban identity in two U.S. cities: the original The Division is set in New York City, while The Division 2 takes place primarily in Washington, D.C. Ubisoft’s account of developing the second game describes research into Washington to make the city convincing before showing it transformed. Its official game description likewise emphasizes the detailed representation of the city. Ubisoft’s description of The Division 2
That approach suggests why a new setting could matter beyond visual variety. The street plan, neighborhood identities, civic spaces, and local context of a city can shape how missions unfold and what players learn from the environment. Those are possibilities for a future game, not claims that Ubisoft has committed to an international setting.
Washington was chosen for its symbolic weight as well as its gameplay potential. In an Ubisoft interview, The Division 2 creative director Julian Gerighty said: “One of the things that I was completely in awe of when we visited DC was how it was a monument to America, a monument to the values of America.” A city outside the U.S. would offer a different visual and narrative vocabulary—but the game would need to make the Division’s presence there credible rather than simply transplanting familiar factions and missions.

What city could The Division’s next spin-off be set in?
These five cities are editorial possibilities, not an official Ubisoft shortlist or a ranked forecast. Fan discussions have raised questions such as “What City would you want to see Division 3 set in?” and “Where should the next Division game be set?” Those posts show examples of reader interest, not representative polling. Each city below would need to support a legible, varied map, useful mission spaces, and a convincing reason for the Division to operate there.
1. London: a map built around contrast
London could give the series room to contrast dense central streets with distinct neighborhoods and major civic landmarks. The opportunity is not just to put familiar sights in the distance: the map would need to turn different urban spaces into readable combat arenas and routes for traversal. That balance could make the city feel varied without making recognition of famous places do all the work.

- Online Connection Required. Black Friday - a devastating pandemic sweeps through New York City, and one by one, basic services fail. In only days, without food or water, society collapses into chaos.
- The Division, an autonomous unit of tactical agents, is activated. Leading seemingly ordinary lives among us, these agents are trained to operate independently in order to save society. When society falls, we rise.
- Harness state-of-the-art technologyas a member of The Division. Customise your character and your backpack, communicate with other agents at all times with your smartwatch. Loot fallen enemies and customise and level up your weapons, gear, and skills.
- Choose and upgrade your skills, and synergize with your teammates to increase your chances of winning in combat.
- Enter the Dark Zone, a walled-off quarantine zone in the middle of Manhattan where the most valuable loot was left behind when the military evacuated. It’s your choice to collaborate with other agents, or attack them and steal their loot.
2. Paris: neighborhood identity as environmental storytelling
Paris could make a tightly recognizable urban setting the backbone of environmental storytelling. Changes from one neighborhood to another could help players read the crisis through the spaces they move through, rather than relying only on mission briefings. A convincing version would need to make those areas playable and distinct; this pitch does not depend on unverified claims about specific infrastructure or access.
3. Berlin: history handled with care
Berlin’s layered history could support a fictional story about borders, division, and contested public space. That theme would require restraint: actual historical trauma should not be reduced to generic post-apocalyptic scenery. The fictional crisis would need its own context, with history informing the setting rather than standing in for the game’s invented conflict.

4. Tokyo: varied districts without cultural shorthand
Tokyo could offer a strong contrast between crowded commercial districts, transportation spaces, and quieter residential areas. That mix has potential for different mission rhythms and traversal challenges, provided the game builds its spaces carefully instead of treating the city as a collection of visual clichés. A story set there should avoid generalizing Japanese culture or inventing factions from stereotypes.
5. Mexico City: a broader regional perspective
Mexico City would take the franchise to a major urban setting in a region it has not explored through its established main-game settings. The strongest case is the change in perspective, not an unsupported claim about particular neighborhoods, climate, transit, or local institutions. Those details would need verification before they could serve as specific setting evidence.

What would make an international setting work?
A new country alone would not make a compelling spin-off. The setting has to shape both the map and the story, and the game has to explain why the Division is there. Ubisoft’s existing approach to Washington offers a useful precedent for taking a city’s detail seriously, but the case for these five candidates is an editorial inference rather than an announced development direction.
- Distinct map structure: Streets and neighborhoods should create meaningful changes in navigation and combat, not just different backdrops.
- Useful public spaces: Landmarks and infrastructure should work as mission locations or environmental clues, rather than appearing solely for recognition.
- Readable encounters: Dense or varied environments still need to support combat spaces and traversal that players can understand.
- A credible story: The game should explain the Division’s presence outside the U.S. in a way that fits the fictional crisis and the chosen city.
Has Ubisoft announced an international Division spin-off?
No international city from this shortlist is identified as a forthcoming setting in the official franchise materials cited here. Ubisoft’s 2026 franchise anniversary update records activity including The Division 2 and The Division Resurgence, but does not announce any of these five cities as a future setting. Ubisoft’s franchise update The list is a proposal for where the series could go, not a report of Ubisoft plans.
