Business teams use Voice as a paid add-on to Google Workspace, with administrator-managed users and numbers; eligible personal Gmail users can also buy separate single-user subscriptions. Choose based on team size, call routing, locations, recording and reporting needs, and whether you already use Workspace.
Can I use Google Voice for my business?
Yes. Google Voice provides calling, texting and voicemail through web and mobile apps. For a managed business team, it is a Workspace add-on—not a replacement for the separately billed Google Workspace plan. The administrator manages the subscription and user setup. See Google’s Voice setup guidance.
Google also offers separate subscriptions for eligible personal Gmail accounts. Those are single-user products, not the same as managed Workspace Voice. Google’s subscription comparison distinguishes the account types. If you need organization-wide administration, shared reception or team routing, evaluate the Workspace offering rather than assuming a personal subscription can provide those controls.
How much does Google Voice for business cost?
Google’s US product page lists these monthly prices per user for Workspace Voice. A Google Workspace plan is required and billed separately. Prices are in US dollars and may vary by country; check the live page and local calling rates before purchase.

Which plan fits your team?
Starter: a small team with straightforward calling
Starter is the entry point for a team of no more than 10 users that needs core business calling and voicemail, without the advanced routing and reporting differentiators listed for higher tiers. It also includes desk-phone and analog telephone adapter support on eligible plans.

Standard: shared reception and more involved call handling
Consider Standard if your team needs ring groups, call queues or auto attendants, or if it has outgrown Starter’s 10-user limit. Standard also adds eDiscovery and SIP Link. These features make it the tier to examine when calls need to reach a group or follow an automated reception flow.
Premier: recording and analytics requirements
Premier is aimed at teams that need automatic recording, transcription and AI notes, or advanced Voice reporting through BigQuery. It also supports unlimited international billing locations. Choose it for those requirements rather than assuming the higher tier is necessary for ordinary calling.

Factor in Workspace and billing locations
If your organization does not already pay for Workspace, include that separate subscription in the total cost. For a distributed organization, check the billing-location limits and current availability in each country; the unlimited international billing-location feature is listed for Premier, not as a universal property of every tier.
Does Google Voice for business include auto attendants?
Auto attendants are listed among Standard features and are also included in Premier. They are different from forwarding calls to linked phones. Google says forwarding a call onward to an automated system is unsupported; ordinary linked-phone forwarding should not be treated as a workaround for a business phone menu. For automated reception, assess the managed Workspace Voice plan and its auto attendant feature. See Google’s call-forwarding guidance.

Can I port my business number to Google Voice?
For a managed Workspace account, number porting is an administrator-led process. Google’s personal-account porting instructions direct Workspace users to contact their administrator. Do not apply the personal-account workflow or its stated $20 fee to a business port; the personal instructions do not establish the fee or process for a managed organization. Start with your Workspace administrator and confirm current eligibility and requirements with Google. See Google’s number-porting guidance.
Can I use a desk phone with Google Voice?
Google lists desk-phone and analog telephone adapter (ATA) support on eligible paid Workspace Voice plans. The official material cited here does not establish specific compatible models. Before buying hardware, verify the exact model against current Google and vendor compatibility documentation. Do not assume that a phone or adapter will work just because it supports VoIP generally.

- ⚠️ DESK PHONE ONLY — Check Your Port Before Buying: This is an RJ9 headset designed exclusively for desk phones. It uses a 4-pin RJ9 connector — NOT compatible with computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones. RJ9 wiring varies by phone brand. If your microphone doesn't work, try all 3 included adapters — different brands use different pin configurations
- Tuned Exclusively for Calls & Conference Audio — Not Designed for Music Playback The headset’s speaker drivers are calibrated to deliver crisp, intelligible speech during phone calls. Its sound signature prioritizes spoken dialogue: voices come across clear and natural, yet the rich, immersive sound needed for music, movies and gaming cannot be achieved.
- Pro Noise-Canceling Microphone: Flexible uni-directional boom mic filters out office chatter, keyboard clicks, and AC hum. Your callers hear your voice with studio-like clarity — not your environment. Adjustable boom arm for perfect positioning
- Single-Ear Awareness Design: Mono design keeps one ear free — stay aware of teammates, ambient office sounds, and doorbells while on calls. Ideal for call center agents, receptionists, and collaborative open offices
- All-Day Lightweight Comfort: Ultra-soft PU leather ear cushion with ventilated design + adjustable headband. Designed for 8+ hour shifts without ear fatigue. Cloud-like fit that stays comfortable through back-to-back meetings
What to know about internet calls and emergency calling
Google describes calling over the internet in a browser or mobile app and estimates that calls use about 0.2 MB of data per minute. That is Google’s estimate, not a guaranteed usage rate; actual experience depends on network quality and speed. Review Google’s internet-calling and emergency-call guidance when checking your setup.
Emergency-call handling is not universal: Google says the path depends on whether the organization manages the Voice account or a call travels through a mobile carrier. Verify how emergency calls work for your specific account, devices and locations, and meet applicable local requirements rather than assuming an internet call follows the same path as a conventional business phone.
Recording calls: check consent requirements
Recording availability depends on the account and plan; Premier specifically lists automatic recording. Google Voice Help warns: “Recording calls without the consent of all call participants may not be legal in some jurisdictions.” Check the laws that apply where your callers and employees are located, and set up any required notice or consent before recording. See Google’s call-recording guidance.
A practical buying checklist
- Team size: Starter is limited to 10 users; Standard and Premier list unlimited users.
- Routing: Identify whether calls need only to ring linked phones or require ring groups, queues or an auto attendant.
- Locations: Confirm availability, local calling rates and billing-location needs for each country.
- Recording and reporting: Determine whether your organization needs automatic recording, transcription, AI notes or BigQuery reporting.
- Hardware: Check current compatibility before ordering desk phones or ATAs.
- Administration and number porting: Confirm that a Workspace administrator can manage users and handle business-number porting.
- Full cost: Add the required Workspace subscription to the Voice per-user price, then verify live pricing and calling rates.
Google’s product page includes a customer testimonial from Nerina Martinez, Senior Director of Technology at Iron Mountain, describing use by a sales team and saying Voice was more affordable to operate than the company’s legacy VoIP systems. That is the customer’s account, not independently verified savings or a guarantee for another business.
