There is no single best PC graphics preset for every game or computer. The right balance depends on your GPU, the game, your display resolution and refresh rate, and whether you care most about image quality, responsiveness, or steadier performance. Start with a measurable baseline, then adjust settings in small steps and compare the results in ordinary gameplay.
Start with a baseline you can compare
Use your display’s native resolution as an image-quality reference. Choose a reasonable in-game preset, play a representative section, and note both how the game feels and any available frame-rate or frame-time readings. A busy fight, crowded area, or other demanding scene is more useful than an empty menu.
AMD’s Radeon Game Advisor can report average FPS and 95th-percentile performance, graph frame times, and generate another report after changes. The article describes a useful measurement workflow, but references older software and operating-system requirements, so do not assume Game Advisor is available in every current Radeon installation. Change one setting—or a small group of related settings—at a time. Replay the same kind of scene and compare both the picture and the experience. This makes it easier to tell which adjustment helped, and to undo one that did not.

If performance is below your goal, test these settings
There is no reliable, universal ranking of graphics settings by performance cost: games and hardware behave differently. These are reasonable options to test, not guaranteed fixes.
- Preset: Try stepping down from Ultra to High or from High to Medium. A preset changes several options at once, so inspect the resulting image before deciding whether to keep it.
- Advanced rendering features: Test options such as antialiasing or ambient occlusion. Their visual effect and performance cost vary by game.
- Render scale: Reducing it lowers the internal rendering resolution while leaving the display output resolution unchanged. The image may look softer or less stable.
- Display resolution: Lowering the output resolution can improve performance, but usually makes the image less sharp on a display running at its native resolution.
AMD lists these as examples of changes Game Advisor may recommend when performance is below a user’s target. Treat the suggestions as starting points for a game-specific comparison, not a universal order of operations. AMD Radeon Game Advisor

Consider upscaling when the game supports it
Upscaling renders the game at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs the image for your output resolution. It can be a useful alternative to lowering the display resolution, but image clarity, stability, compatibility, and available modes depend on the game’s implementation and supported hardware.
Check the game’s graphics menu for its supported upscaler and quality modes. AMD’s FSR information describes multiple generations with differing features and compatibility; these technologies are available only in select games that integrate them. Confirm current support for your game and GPU rather than assuming every FSR version or feature is available. AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution

When comparing supported upscalers or rendering modes, look at image clarity and stability at your output resolution, frame-rate and frame-time consistency, input responsiveness, the GPU and game combinations supported, and whether the feature is built into the game or enabled through a driver. The available vendor information does not establish one winner across games.
Decide whether frame generation suits your game
Frame generation inserts generated frames and can increase the displayed frame rate. That number alone does not tell you how responsive the game feels: displayed FPS and input latency are different parts of the experience.

Try it in the game you actually play and judge controls as well as motion. For fast competitive play, where responsiveness can matter more than a higher displayed FPS, compare carefully or leave frame generation off. Graphics-driver panels can offer additional per-game controls, but the options shown and their effects depend on the GPU and application. NVIDIA documents image scaling, a maximum frame-rate control, low-latency mode, and application-controlled antialiasing among its settings. AMD describes frame-rate targeting and notes that tuning may take several adjustments. If a driver-level experiment makes the result worse, restore global or per-application defaults as appropriate. Keep track of what you changed so you can reverse it. AMD Radeon settings: Frame Rate Target Control
If performance has headroom, improve the image selectively
Extra performance is an opportunity to improve the settings that matter most to you, not a reason to maximize every slider. Try raising the preset, antialiasing, ambient occlusion, render scale, or resolution, then check whether the visible improvement is worth the performance change. There is no established universal FPS target or setting-by-setting cost ranking for an unspecified PC and game. For a more precise recommendation, the relevant details are the exact game, GPU, output resolution, display refresh rate, and the kind of performance you want.
