The right horror demo depends on the kind of session you want: a quick solo story, a corridor-anomaly puzzle, a co-op observation test, exploratory browsing, or combat. These six free Steam demos offer a mix of those styles; the picks below are recommendations by play style, not a hands-on ranking.

Which Steam horror demo fits your play style?

Demo Best for Estimated session Minimum PC requirements noted on Steam
Don’t Play This DEMO A very short solo sample 15 minutes 5 GB storage; GTX 1060 graphics card
FATHER Demo Psychological horror and a compact story opening 25–30 minutes Not stated in the cited page details
No Visitors Allowed Demo Anomaly spotting 15–80 minutes Windows 10 or later, 12 GB RAM, GTX 1050 Ti or equivalent-class graphics, broadband internet
Did You See That? Demo Two-player online co-op Not stated Windows 10, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1070 or equivalent, 3 GB storage
Project DeepWeb: Eternal Nightmare Browser-style exploration and puzzles Not stated Not stated in the cited announcement
Broomstick Exorcist Combat Demo Combat and a Steam Deck option One level; time estimate not stated Not stated in the cited page details

Session estimates and minimum requirements are publisher-provided storefront information, not independent timing or hardware tests. Check each Steam page for current availability and full system requirements before installing.

Best for a very short solo sample: Don’t Play This DEMO

This first-person horror walking simulator is built around viewing recordings of people’s final moments. Steam estimates about 15 minutes for the demo, making it the shortest clearly timed option in this selection. The page lists 5 GB of storage and a GTX 1060 minimum graphics card. It is presented as a free demo. See the Don’t Play This DEMO Steam listing.

Best for psychological horror and a story opening: FATHER Demo

FATHER has you manage a household under strict rules, explore rooms, find items, and piece together fragments of a story. The developer estimates a 25–30-minute playthrough. The demo covers only part of the full story, and Steam’s mature-content description identifies blood, dead bodies, and gore. Check the FATHER Demo Steam page for its current requirements and content details.

#1 Best Overall
The Evil Within 2 - PC
  • Story of Redemption: Return to the nightmare to win back your life and your daughter
  • Discover Horrifying Domains : Explore as far or quickly as you dare, but prepare wisely
  • Face Disturbing Enemies : Survive encounters with sadistic enemies and twisted creatures
  • Choose How to Survive : Attack from the shadows, run like hell, or go in guns blazing with very limited ammo

Best for anomaly spotting: No Visitors Allowed Demo

In this psychological-horror loop set in an abandoned hospital, look for anomalies in the corridor: turn back when you spot one and continue when the passage seems normal. Steam gives a broad 15–80-minute play-time estimate, so the length depends on the run. Minimum requirements listed are Windows 10 or later, 12 GB RAM, a GTX 1050 Ti or equivalent-class graphics card, and broadband internet. View the No Visitors Allowed Demo Steam listing.

Best for a friend co-op session: Did You See That? Demo

This is the pick for playing with another person: Steam describes it as a two-player online anomaly-horror game in which players compare what they see in a transforming carnival. The demo released September 5, 2026. Its listed minimum requirements are Windows 10, 8 GB RAM, a GTX 1070 or equivalent, and 3 GB of storage. Check Did You See That? Demo on Steam.

Check the Steam announcement and listing for current access.

Best for combat or a portable play option: Broomstick Exorcist Combat Demo

If you would rather fight than search corridors or assemble clues, this is a bite-sized, one-level sample of a hand-drawn 2.5D supernatural beat-’em-up. The Steam page says abilities are unlocked in the demo and that it is playable on Steam Deck. It does not give a session-time estimate in the cited details. See the Broomstick Exorcist Combat Demo Steam page.

How to choose and check a demo before downloading

  • Choose by activity first: narrative exploration, anomaly detection, co-op observation, browsing and puzzles, or action.
  • Use stated play times as rough publisher estimates, not guarantees; only three of these pages provide a clear time range or estimate.
  • Compare the minimum requirements in the table with your PC, then open the listing for the complete and current requirements. Among the stated graphics minimums, Don’t Play This DEMO lists a GTX 1060 and Did You See That? Demo a GTX 1070 or equivalent.
  • For Did You See That?, plan for two online players. For a Steam Deck option, the Broomstick Exorcist Combat Demo page explicitly says it is playable on Deck.
  • Steam availability, requirements, and storefront details can change; verify the live listing before you install.

All six selections are digital demos presented as free on Steam. The cited pages do not establish a required physical accessory or other physical purchase.
