They do not change the caller ID seen by someone you call. That separate practice—caller ID spoofing—falsifies the number on a real call.
Fake incoming calls and caller ID spoofing are different
A fake-call app displays a simulated incoming-call screen on the Android device where it is installed. Depending on the app, you can set a caller name or number and schedule when the screen appears. It is a local simulation, not a real call to or from another person.
Caller ID spoofing alters the number presented during a real call, so the call can appear to come from a familiar person or number. Google describes spoofing as masking a phone number through internet-based calling systems. The apps compared below are presented as simulators; their listings do not establish that they can change the caller ID shown to someone else.

- Caller customization: Look for the caller name, number, image, and simulated call-screen controls you want; the listings do not all describe the same options.
- Audio: If you want audio to play after answering, confirm that the feature is present in the current listing and understand what microphone or storage permissions the app requests.
- Update recency and compatibility: Compare the listing’s update date and confirm that it supports your Android version and device.
- Data practices: Read the current Data safety section and permissions. These are developer disclosures, not independent privacy audits.
How do I schedule a fake incoming call?
The exact controls depend on the app and its current version. The listings establish scheduling in Fake Call (Nova Labs) and Fake Call – Prank Friends, but do not provide a universal Android procedure.
- Install the app from its official Google Play listing and verify the developer name.
- Open the app and look for its call-scheduling controls. Set the caller details and time using the options shown in that version.
- If available, add the app’s widget or shortcut for quicker access; check the listing and in-app instructions for supported options.
- Review requested permissions and the current Data safety disclosure before using optional features such as contact selection or audio playback.
How can I tell if a caller is spoofing a number?
Caller ID alone is not proof of who is calling. Google announced fake-call detection in Phone by Google in June 2026. It checks whether a contact’s device confirms that it is making the call; if confirmation is missing and that device says it is not calling, the recipient may receive a warning. Google says the feature uses end-to-end encrypted RCS.

Availability is conditional: Google lists Android 12 or later, Phone by Google, Contacts, Google Messages with RCS enabled, and both caller and recipient using Phone by Google. Google said rollout was beginning globally with Pixel devices, so the feature should not be assumed to be available on every Android phone. Google’s separate caller ID and spam protection may send numbers for calls to or from people outside your contacts to Google to identify a business or determine whether a call is spam. You can turn this off in the Phone app settings. Google explains the feature in Use caller ID & spam protection.

Install carefully, and do not rely on a fake call for safety
Install from the official listing, verify the developer, and review permissions and the current Data safety disclosure. Avoid sideloaded lookalikes. Google Play Protect’s warning categories include call fraud, phishing, spyware, and data collection; a warning is a reason to stop and investigate. There is no indication here that any of the three named apps triggers such a warning, and a warning category alone is not an accusation about a particular app. See Google Play Protect warning strings.
A simulated call cannot guarantee discretion, arrive at a dependable time, or serve as an emergency plan. If you face a real threat, prioritize contacting someone you trust or local emergency services.
