The best Chromebook to buy in 2026 depends on whether you prioritize a premium screen, a lower-cost everyday laptop, or a convertible design. For a premium pick, the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 stands out in the reviewed comparisons: PCWorld names it its high-end choice, and its tested configuration pairs a 14-inch OLED touchscreen with 16 GB of RAM. There is no universal winner, though: PCWorld selects the ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34 overall, while TechRadar selects the HP Chromebook Plus 15.6-inch.

Which Chromebook should you buy in 2026?

Choose the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 if you want a premium Chromebook with an OLED touchscreen and are comfortable paying for a high-end configuration. Consider the ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34 for a conventional all-round laptop, or the HP Chromebook Plus 15.6-inch if you prefer a larger, non-touch screen. For a laptop that folds into tablet mode, compare the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514.

Those recommendations reflect different reviewers’ priorities, not a shared ranking. PCWorld calls the ASUS its best overall Chromebook and the Lenovo its high-end pick; TechRadar names the HP its best overall. Treat each as a shortlist candidate, then compare the exact configuration and current price available where you shop.

How the leading Chromebook picks compare

Model Role in the cited guide or listing Configuration and trade-offs
Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 PCWorld’s high-end pick PCWorld’s tested configuration has a 14-inch 1920×1200 OLED touchscreen, MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910, 16 GB RAM and 256 GB UFS storage. These specifications describe the tested configuration, not every model sold under the family name.
ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34 PCWorld’s best overall pick PCWorld praises its processor performance, keyboard, connectivity and design. It also flags battery life and the 16:9 display as drawbacks; consult the review for the specific configuration evaluated.
HP Chromebook Plus 15.6-inch TechRadar’s best overall pick The listed review configuration has an Intel Core i3-N305, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB UFS storage and a 15.6-inch 1080p non-touch display. It suits shoppers who want a larger screen, but not those seeking a touchscreen convertible.
Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514 Google’s official catalog lists it as a convertible option Google lists multiple configurations. The MediaTek listing shows a $699 MSRP and an estimated battery life of up to 17 hours; both details are specific to that listing and the battery figure has test-condition caveats.

Best premium Chromebook: Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14

The Lenovo is the clearest premium recommendation in these comparisons for someone who values display quality and a well-equipped configuration. PCWorld’s tested model combines a 14-inch, 1920×1200 OLED touchscreen with 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB of UFS storage and a MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 processor. That makes it the most compelling lead here for demanding everyday multitasking and screen-focused work, without implying that every configuration has the same components.

Check the model number and specification list before buying. Retailers can sell variants under a shared family name, and the evidence-backed configuration above should not be assumed to match a lower-priced listing.

Best everyday Chromebook: ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34

PCWorld’s overall selection emphasizes the CX34’s processor performance, keyboard, connectivity and design. Its two noted compromises matter for daily use: PCWorld flags battery life and the 16:9 screen. If long unplugged sessions or a taller-feeling display are priorities, compare it carefully with other options rather than treating the overall-pick label as a guarantee that it fits every buyer.

Best Chromebook with a large screen: HP Chromebook Plus 15.6-inch

TechRadar’s overall pick is a sensible candidate if you want a comparatively large display for documents, browsing or video. Its cited configuration uses a 15.6-inch 1080p panel without touch input, alongside an Intel Core i3-N305, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS storage. The screen size may be less convenient for carrying than a 14-inch device, and this configuration is not a 2-in-1.

Best convertible option: Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514

Google’s Chromebook shop lists the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514 in distinct configurations, including a MediaTek version. Its convertible design is the key reason to consider it if you want to switch between laptop and tablet-style use; compare the exact listing for its processor, memory, storage and included features.

ASUS 2026 15" FHD IPS Chromebook, Intel Processor Up to 2.80GHz, 4GB DDR4, 128GB Storage, HDMI, Super-Fast WiFi, Chrome OS, Pastel Silver (Renewed)
  • Intel Processor Up to 2.80GHz, 4GB DDR4, 128GB Storage
  • 15" FHD IPS Display, Intel UHD Graphics
  • 1x USB Type C, 1 x USB Type A, 1x Headphone/Microphone Combo Jack, HDMI
  • Fast WiFi and Bluetooth, Integrated Webcam
  • Chrome OS, AC Charger Included, Pastel Silver

Google lists the MediaTek configuration at a $699 MSRP and estimates up to 17 hours of battery life. Google says its estimate comes from controlled web-browsing tests on pre-production units and warns that actual battery life may be lower and vary significantly. The estimate is not a promise of runtime in ordinary use.

How to choose the right Chromebook for school, work or home

For school

Start with the student’s workload and how the Chromebook will be carried. A 14-inch model may be easier to transport than a 15.6-inch laptop; a convertible can be useful if tablet-style use matters. Check the school’s app and accessory requirements, plus the exact configuration’s memory and storage, before choosing by model name alone.

For work

Match the computer to your actual workload. The Lenovo’s cited 16 GB configuration is the most memory-equipped example among these reviewed picks, while the HP configuration lists 8 GB. Also consider the CX34’s keyboard and connectivity strengths as described by PCWorld, and verify that the ports and applications you need are supported by the specific model.

For a budget purchase

These cited sources do not establish a single current budget winner or a broadly comparable street price for the three review picks. Check current retailer prices in your region and compare like-for-like configurations. A lower price may reflect a different processor, less memory or storage, or a different screen, so confirm the full specification and model suffix.

Check configuration, price and software eligibility before buying

  • Match the SKU to the review configuration. Processor, RAM, storage, display resolution and touch support can vary within a model family.
  • Compare current local prices and stock. The guides and Google catalog may reflect different regions, retailers and dates; the Acer figure above is an MSRP for one listed configuration, not a universal sale price.
  • Check Chromebook Plus feature eligibility by exact model. Google maintains a model-specific Chromebook Plus OS update eligibility list. Do not infer eligibility from a manufacturer or product-family name.
  • Separate tested experience from manufacturer estimates. PCWorld says its roundup models were tested hands-on. Google’s battery figure is a controlled-test estimate on pre-production hardware, not an independent real-world result.

What Chromebook Plus means

Chromebook Plus is a category of Chromebooks with a Google-defined standard for performance and features; it is not a single laptop model. In its announcement, Google said it worked with Acer, ASUS, HP and Lenovo on a “guaranteed standard of performance that people can depend on to get what they need done.” The announcement does not attribute that statement to a named individual. For a specific device, confirm the model’s current feature and update eligibility rather than relying on the category label alone.

There is also a separate, newly discussed laptop category called Googlebooks. Tom’s Guide covered benchmark results for five Googlebooks on October 7, 2026; those devices are not Chromebooks, so their results should not be used to rank the Chromebook models here.
