Some of Amazon’s October 2026 device deals look worthwhile, but the advertised discount is not the whole story: Amazon raised prices on several products in late August, making some markdowns less compelling. WIRED’s October 6 roundup judged the offers against those price changes and each device’s use case. The prices below are WIRED-reported U.S. figures from that date, not guaranteed live offers; check the retailer listing for current price, stock, model and configuration before buying.

Are these Prime Day device deals actually good?

Some are, but a percentage-off label can exaggerate the savings when the listed price rose shortly before the sale. WIRED reported that the Echo Dot (5th Gen), for example, was listed at $80 after a $30 increase, then discounted to $40. That is $40 below the reported sale reference price, but the increase changes how persuasive the markdown looks. WIRED says the Echo Studio (2nd Gen) and Ember Artline TV prices were not raised in August, giving those offers a different price-history context.

All prices in this guide were reported by WIRED on October 6, 2026, for the U.S. market. Offers can change or end, and no independent price-history or live retailer check is established here. WIRED’s full roundup and judgments are at WIRED’s October 6, 2026 Prime Day guide.

Device WIRED-reported price (Oct. 6, 2026) Best fit and caveat
Echo Spot (2024) $55, down from $110 WIRED’s favored Echo deal: a bedside alarm with a small display and no camera. WIRED said its original price was $80, so the $110 reference price does not tell the whole price-history story.
Echo Studio (2nd Gen) $180, down from $220 Room-filling sound; WIRED reported that its list price was not raised in August.
Echo Show 11 $150, down from $250 A kitchen-friendly smart display. WIRED said it sounds better than the newer Echo Show 8.
Echo Dot (5th Gen) $40, down from $80 The guide’s cheapest current Echo model. The listed price had risen by $30 before this reported deal.

Kindle e-readers and digital notebook

The standard Paperwhite is WIRED’s all-around Kindle choice. Consider the Signature Edition only if its additional features justify the higher reported price for you; choose Colorsoft for color, Kids for its child-focused bundle, or Scribe if you want a notebook as well as an e-reader.

Device WIRED-reported price (Oct. 6, 2026) Decision point
Kindle Colorsoft $190, down from $290 Color e-reader; WIRED says color is the main reason to choose it.
Kindle Paperwhite (2024, 12th Gen) $150, down from $200 WIRED’s all-around pick, with warm and cool front-light tones and up to 12 weeks of battery life cited by the guide.
Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition $170, down from $250 Compare its extra cost with the standard Paperwhite and the features you need.
Kindle Colorsoft Kids $210, down from $300 For young readers; WIRED reports it includes one year of Kids+ and a color screen.
Kindle (2024, 11th Gen) $104, down from $150 The cheapest Kindle in the roundup, but without Paperwhite features. Its listed price rose by $40.
Kindle Scribe (3rd Gen) $380 (32 GB); $420 (64 GB) Combines e-reading and digital note-taking; WIRED highlights new AI features and a new homepage.

WIRED writer and reviewer Nena Farrell calls the Paperwhite “the best all-around Kindle.” The cited battery life is a product claim reported by WIRED, not a runtime measurement presented here.

Fire TV streaming stick

WIRED reported the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen) at $45, down from $85. It has 16 GB of storage and Wi-Fi 6E, according to the guide. Prime membership may be useful, but WIRED says it is not required to access other streaming services. This is the most relevant option here if you want to add or upgrade streaming on an existing TV rather than buy a television.

Ember Artline TV

WIRED reported the Ember Artline TV at $500 for the 55-inch model and $800 for the 65-inch model. It is an art-focused television with built-in Alexa+. WIRED said its prices were not raised in August, unlike several other Amazon devices in this roundup.

System WIRED-reported price (Oct. 6, 2026) What to weigh
Eero Pro 6E $260 (2-pack); $375 (3-pack) Older mesh option with 6 GHz, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands; subscription features may add cost.
Eero Pro 7 $400 (2-pack); $600 (3-pack) Wi-Fi 7 tri-band mesh system positioned by WIRED for busy homes; subscription features remain a cost consideration. WIRED reported a $100 late-August price increase.

How to choose without overpaying

  • Check the actual price history. Compare the sale price with the earlier price as well as the reference price shown in a promotion; the late-August increases affect several products here.
  • Buy for the use case. Match a Spot to a bedside alarm, a Studio to room-filling sound, a Paperwhite to general reading, a Scribe to reading plus note-taking, and Eero to whole-home networking.
  • Compare the exact model and configuration. Kindle versions and editions differ, Scribe storage changes the price, and Eero two- and three-packs are not interchangeable needs.
  • Include ongoing requirements. WIRED flags subscription-dependent Eero features. For Fire TV, Prime is useful but not required for other streaming services.
  • Verify the listing before checkout. Confirm that the price, stock, generation, screen size, storage and pack size match the offer you intend to buy.
