For a Mac-centered design setup, the Apple Studio Display XDR is the strongest premium all-round pick in this U.S.-focused selection. If you need a more affordable 5K screen, consider the LG 27GM950B-B; for 4K, compare the Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx and ASUS ProArt Display PA279CRV. The KOORUI S2721PM is the budget choice, with lower resolution and weaker out-of-box color accuracy.

The right monitor depends on what you make, your computer and ports, the space and lighting at your desk, and whether you plan to calibrate the screen. These five recommendations reflect RTINGS’ U.S.-market guide, whose update log runs through September 25, 2026. Check local availability, exact model suffixes, and warranty support if buying outside the United States.

Which monitor is best for graphic design?

RTINGS names the Apple Studio Display XDR its best overall pick, particularly for a Mac-centered premium setup. Its 27-inch 5K resolution produces detailed rendering, and the guide describes a highly accurate sRGB mode. That mode is accessible only with macOS, however, and RTINGS reports Adobe RGB oversaturation—a meaningful qualification for color-critical print work. The monitor uses Mini LED backlighting and supports Thunderbolt 5, up to 140W power delivery, daisy chaining, and glossy or matte coating options. Compare the total cost and ensure the OS-specific color mode fits your workflow before choosing it. RTINGS’ Apple Studio Display XDR evaluation

How the five picks compare

Monitor Resolution and role Color and workflow notes Connectivity and trade-offs
Apple Studio Display XDR 27-inch 5K; premium overall, especially for Mac users RTINGS describes a highly accurate sRGB mode, available only in macOS. It reports broad sRGB and Adobe RGB coverage, but Adobe RGB oversaturation. Thunderbolt 5, up to 140W power delivery, daisy chaining; glossy or matte coating options. Compare total cost.
LG 27GM950B-B 27-inch 5K; upper mid-range alternative RTINGS reports full sRGB and Adobe RGB coverage, good out-of-box accuracy, and a cross-platform sRGB mode. USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode and 90W power delivery. No Thunderbolt or daisy chaining. Matte finish handles reflections well, according to RTINGS.
Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx 27-inch 4K; mid-range RTINGS reports an accurate sRGB mode, but weaker white balance and color accuracy than the LG; calibration may help for critical work. Mini LED local dimming works only in HDR and can halo around bright objects. SDR blacks can look gray. USB hub, DisplayPort Alt Mode, 90W power delivery, and KVM. Reflection handling is weaker than the LG’s, according to RTINGS.
ASUS ProArt Display PA279CRV 27-inch 4K; lower mid-range color-work choice RTINGS describes strong uncalibrated accuracy and sRGB and Adobe RGB modes. ASUS lists 99% DCI-P3, 99% Adobe RGB, and Delta E < 2 as manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Up to 96W USB-C power delivery according to ASUS; RTINGS says it has a larger USB hub than the Acer but lacks the Acer’s KVM and Mini LED local dimming. RTINGS reports similar SDR performance.
KOORUI S2721PM 27-inch 1440p; budget RTINGS reports nearly all sRGB and Adobe RGB gamut coverage, but worse out-of-box accuracy with a noticeable red tint. Calibration may be preferable for accurate color editing. No USB hub. Its lower resolution is a compromise against the 4K and 5K picks.

The comparative assessments above come from RTINGS’ graphic-design monitor guide; the PA279CRV figures are manufacturer-published ASUS specifications.

Choose by the work you do

Screen-first design and web graphics

For work primarily viewed on screens, dependable sRGB handling is a practical priority. Check whether the relevant sRGB mode is available on your operating system: the Apple’s mode is macOS-only, while RTINGS describes the LG’s as cross-platform. Gamut coverage alone does not tell you whether a display renders a target accurately; evaluate mode accuracy as well.

Print and photography

Adobe RGB support can matter when a print or photo workflow uses that gamut, but it is not a substitute for soft-proofing to the intended output. RTINGS’ warning about Adobe RGB oversaturation on the Apple illustrates why a broad gamut is not, on its own, a color-accuracy verdict. For critical work, also consider factory-mode accuracy, calibration support, and screen uniformity.

Video work

Choose and configure a display for the specific color workflow you deliver in, such as P3 or Rec.709, rather than assuming a monitor with wide gamut coverage is automatically suitable. Confirm that the mode and calibration workflow you need are supported; the five-pick evaluations summarized here do not establish every model’s performance in every video standard.

Match resolution, size, and desk space

  • 5K at 27 inches: The Apple and LG prioritize detailed rendering.
  • 4K at 27 inches: The Acer and ASUS provide the middle ground in this selection.
  • 1440p at 27 inches: The KOORUI trades sharpness for a budget-oriented option.

A larger screen may make side-by-side windows more comfortable, but it also needs more desk space. Choose based on viewing distance, workspace, and how you arrange tools and canvases—not resolution alone.

Check ports, charging, and operating-system needs

Match the monitor’s actual connections to your computer. USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode can carry video over USB-C, while power delivery can charge a connected laptop; the wattage matters if you want a single-cable setup. A USB hub reduces the need for separate accessories, and KVM can help control more than one computer. Daisy chaining matters if you intend to connect compatible displays in sequence.

  • Apple Studio Display XDR: Thunderbolt 5, up to 140W power delivery, daisy chaining; its RTINGS-described sRGB mode requires macOS.
  • LG 27GM950B-B: USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode and 90W power delivery; no Thunderbolt or daisy chaining.
  • Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx: USB hub, DisplayPort Alt Mode, 90W power delivery, and KVM.
  • ASUS ProArt Display PA279CRV: ASUS specifies up to 96W USB-C power delivery; RTINGS notes a larger hub than the Acer.
  • KOORUI S2721PM: No USB hub.

Account for calibration, lighting, and finish

For color-critical projects, prioritize reliable factory modes and consider calibration; a monitor’s gamut claim does not establish that its colors are accurate. RTINGS says calibration may help the Acer, and that calibration may be preferred for the KOORUI because of its noticeable red tint. It describes strong uncalibrated accuracy for the ASUS. These model-specific findings are not a guarantee that every unit will behave identically.

Room lighting and reflections affect how comfortably you can judge an image. RTINGS says the LG’s matte finish handles reflections well and notes the Apple offers a matte option. It describes weaker reflection handling on the Acer than on the LG, alongside the Acer’s gray-looking SDR blacks. Consider your desk lighting and finish preference before buying.

When to look beyond these five

If hardware calibration or particularly explicit color specifications are central to your process, other products illustrate features to compare, though they are not among RTINGS’ five ranked picks here. BenQ lists the SW272U with 99% Adobe RGB, 99% P3, 100% sRGB, Delta E ≤ 1.5, a 16-bit 3D LUT, and hardware-calibration support; those are manufacturer-published specifications. ASUS lists built-in motorized colorimetry and self/auto calibration for the PA27UCGE, and specifies 98% DCI-P3 and Delta E < 1. These figures are not independent measurements or a ranking of either monitor against the five picks. BenQ SW272U specifications · ASUS PA27UCGE specifications

How to make the final choice

  1. Identify your output: Decide whether your main work is screen-first, print/photo, or video, then check for the color space and workflow it requires.
  2. Confirm platform and connections: Check your computer’s ports, laptop charging needs, operating-system compatibility, and whether you need a hub, KVM, or daisy chaining.
  3. Choose the resolution and size: Decide whether 5K detail, 4K, or the KOORUI’s 1440p budget trade-off best suits your desk and work.
  4. Set your color-accuracy expectations: Compare tested mode accuracy and calibration needs, not gamut coverage alone.
  5. Check the buying details: Verify exact model suffix, current local listing, availability, finish, and warranty support. Prices are not established here.
