RTINGS.com’s current guide names four TP-Link options: the Deco 7 Pro BE63 for whole-home mesh coverage, the Archer BE550 as a midrange standalone router, the Archer AX55 as a budget choice, and the Archer AX10 as its cheapest basic pick. Those are the guide’s recommendations, not results of testing conducted for this article. The right one for you depends first on your home’s layout, then on your budget, internet plan, and devices.
Netflix recommends at least 15 Mbps for UHD 4K, 5 Mbps for FHD 1080p, and 3 Mbps for HD 720p. Those are Netflix-specific service recommendations, not guarantees for other services or a full household. A router can improve Wi-Fi distribution inside your home, but it cannot increase the speed your internet provider delivers.
At a glance: the four streaming router picks
| Router | Best suited to | Key strengths | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| TP-Link Deco 7 Pro BE63 | Large homes, multiple floors, or persistent dead zones | Expandable mesh coverage; RTINGS says it can handle multiple 4K HDR streams in different rooms | Advanced parental controls and extra security features, including network-wide antivirus, require a paid HomeShield subscription |
| TP-Link Archer BE550 | Midrange standalone Wi-Fi 7 setup | Tri-band Wi-Fi 7 across 2.4, 5, and 6GHz; five 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports; EasyMesh support | Its 5GHz range is weaker than the Deco mesh pick’s |
| TP-Link Archer AX55 | Budget-conscious homes that need solid Wi-Fi 6 coverage | Dual-band Wi-Fi 6; RTINGS describes enough throughput in its test context for multiple simultaneous 4K HDR streams | No 6GHz band for Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 clients |
| TP-Link Archer AX10 | Basic, lowest-cost Wi-Fi 6 needs | RTINGS says it handles everyday use and 4K video, including multiple users in its test description; compatible OneMesh range-extender expansion | No DFS support, which can limit channel options in some crowded wireless environments |
These recommendations and descriptions come from RTINGS.com’s streaming-router guide. The guide says its recommendations consider price, user feedback, and availability, and its update history records a review of availability and price categories on August 14, 2026. Prices and local availability can change, so compare current listings before deciding.

Plan where the additional units will sit and check the exact BE63 bundle and model listing: the included number of units can vary by listing. Also account for the HomeShield subscription if you want the guide’s noted advanced parental controls and extra security features.
TP-Link Archer BE550: a midrange Wi-Fi 7 router with wired flexibility
The Archer BE550 is the midrange option if you want a standalone router with Wi-Fi 7 features and several fast wired connections. RTINGS identifies it as a tri-band model operating on 2.4, 5, and 6GHz, with five 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports and range that can support multilevel homes. TP-Link’s US product page confirms Wi-Fi 7, EasyMesh, device-based QoS, and Multi-Link Operation (MLO).
Rank #2
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
The trade-off is 5GHz range: RTINGS says it is weaker than the Deco top pick’s. EasyMesh can support expansion, but confirm that any additional device is compatible rather than assuming every extender or router will work. Wi-Fi 7 features such as MLO and 320MHz channels require compatible client devices, and available channels or widths can vary by region. TP-Link lists an aggregate Wi-Fi signal rate of up to 9.2Gbps based on IEEE physical rates; that is not a measured streaming speed or a guarantee of real-world throughput.
TP-Link Archer AX55: budget Wi-Fi 6 for a conventional layout
The Archer AX55 is the budget pick if you want a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router and do not need 6GHz. RTINGS describes its range as strong and its throughput in the guide’s test context as sufficient for multiple simultaneous 4K HDR streams. It can pair with compatible OneMesh or EasyMesh devices, but check compatibility for the specific router or extender you plan to add.

TP-Link Archer AX10: basic service at the lowest tier
The Archer AX10 is the cheapest/basic recommendation in the guide. RTINGS says it handles everyday use and 4K video, including multiple users in its test description. It can be expanded with a OneMesh-compatible range extender. Its lack of DFS support may matter in a crowded wireless environment where DFS-only channels could otherwise provide another channel option.
How much internet speed does streaming need?
Netflix’s internet-speed help page recommends a stable connection of 15 Mbps or higher for UHD 4K, 5 Mbps or higher for FHD 1080p, and 3 Mbps or higher for HD 720p. These figures apply to Netflix’s service guidance; they are not universal requirements for every streaming app. Several simultaneous streams, video calls, downloads, and other activity all draw on the same household connection, so leave headroom rather than treating one stream’s minimum as the whole home’s target.

- 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐕𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭 – Improved vented areas help unleash the full power of the router
Netflix notes that many factors can affect playback quality and suggests checking speed on the viewing device or using Fast.com. A router does not raise the speed supplied by your ISP, bypass a streaming-plan limit, or fix a slow or overloaded client device. If buffering continues, first determine whether the bottleneck is the internet connection, Wi-Fi signal, or the device or app.
How to choose: coverage first, then features
- Map where buffering or weak signal happens. If the problem is confined to distant rooms or different floors, the expandable Deco mesh system is the clearest fit among these picks. If a well-placed router already reaches your viewing areas, a standalone Archer may be more appropriate.
- Check the ISP plan and existing equipment. Compare your subscribed service with the router’s WAN connection and the capabilities of your existing modem. NETGEAR’s streaming-network guidance also recommends checking plan speed, range, signal, device capacity, and QoS; treat its product performance statements as manufacturer claims rather than independent comparisons.
- Match Wi-Fi features to your clients. The BE550’s 6GHz band and Wi-Fi 7 features are useful only when client devices support them. Older devices still connect, but do not gain 6GHz, MLO, or other unsupported capabilities simply because the router offers them. The AX55 and AX10 are Wi-Fi 6 options without a 6GHz band.
- Account for wired devices and ports. If a TV, console, NAS, or other high-bandwidth device will connect by Ethernet, count the ports and check their speeds. The BE550’s five 2.5Gbps ports are a notable option if your wired setup can use them; your other network equipment and service must also support the speeds you expect.
- Price the system you will actually use. Compare current local prices for the router or complete mesh bundle, any additional mesh units or extender, and any subscription features you want. The RTINGS guide weighs whether a price premium is worthwhile, but its listed categories do not establish a live price for your location.
Will mesh improve streaming quality?
Mesh may improve streaming when weak Wi-Fi coverage is the cause of buffering: extra nodes can bring a signal closer to a distant viewing area. It will not make a slow ISP connection faster, and the result still depends on node placement and the connection between nodes. For a compact home where a single router already reaches the TV or streaming device reliably, mesh may add complexity without addressing a real problem.

Is Wi-Fi 7 necessary for streaming?
No. The Netflix recommendation for UHD 4K is a stable 15 Mbps or higher, and the AX55 and AX10 are the guide’s Wi-Fi 6 recommendations for budget and basic use. Wi-Fi 7 may be useful if you have compatible clients, want its newer features, or need the BE550’s port configuration, but the standard by itself does not guarantee better streaming. A good signal and adequate ISP service matter more than choosing the newest Wi-Fi generation solely for video playback.
Expansion and setup: check the ecosystem
Mesh and extender systems are not universally interchangeable. The BE550 supports EasyMesh; the AX55 can pair with compatible OneMesh or EasyMesh devices according to the guide; the AX10’s stated expansion route is a OneMesh-compatible range extender. Confirm the exact model’s compatibility before buying an additional device. As a contextual alternative—not one of the four picks—eero 7 support says a unit can cover up to 2,000 sq. ft. indoors and support 120+ devices; these are manufacturer-stated maximum and capacity claims, not independent measurements. eero requires its app for setup and management, so check current official terms for any service costs before choosing it.
